ATX soft power switch hunt

I have an AT/ATX case. Currently it has an AT power supply with an AT on/off power switch. I would like to purchase an ATX power supply for it and an ATX soft power switch.
Does anyone (even Radio Shack) carry an ATX soft power switch for sale????

I'm just gonna buy the cheapest ATX case out there ($20) and
use it for parts........Greg

You should be able to get one from a local computer shop. They are available as a seperate item.

You can make one for about $2 and a few pieces of wire. Get a momentary pushbutton switch (mini) from Radio Shack, solder two wires on it. Find (from an old MB etc) a two pin lead that will fit on the ATX soft switch on the MB, preferably one that has at least 2 inches of wire on it and connect it (either solder or twist together) the leads from the switch. Now, drill a small hole in the case somewhere, (I have even put this switch on the back of the computer), and mount the switch. Once it is mounted connect to the MB softswitch and viola', you have an ATX soft switch. Not hard to do, I have done this several times!!

Rebels7: Thanks for the info. I had gone to radio shack and seen the
switches. I wasn't sure which one to get though, the momentary or
the on/off. I may be able to adapt one to fit right behind my
existing button on the front of the midtower.......Greg

If you are going ATX you need a momentary switch.
(Normally open.)

I've found a few places that sell AT power switches but none that
sell ATX power (soft) switches. Do the people that build their own
cases (clear/plastic) goto Radio Shack also and build their own
ATX switches?? Or do they get them from older cases???

OK, here is a novel/stupid idea:

Could you use an AT one that you just flipped on and back off to simulate pressing the button on an ATX one? It would save hacking the case up, and you can even 'switch it on' for 5 seconds instead of having to hold the button down when you want to force it to shut down.

I'm sure I'm missing something obvious here, but can't remember what.

the thin you're missing is the fact that the AT switch is wired directly to the powersupply, whereas the ATX switch goes to a header on the motherboard.

GregMal, like others have already said, get any old momentary switch from RadioShark or wherever and wire her up yourself. I'll cost you like a dollar. It may not fit perfectly on your case, but that's nothing a Dremel and some epoxy can't fix

Naw...I'd rather buy one that's already set for the computer than
kludge one together from Radio Shack parts.
I'm just so happy I've found an internet retailer that has them.....
