ATX Power Supply - won't turn off

I've been trying to figure out various power problems with my Epox 8KTA+ MB /Duron 600 system. I have an Antec case w/a PP-303X power supply that always stays on; I need to pull the power plug to make it power down. I finally unplugged the motherboard - power stays on (drives spin, etc). I unplugged the drives -- power stays on; I unplugged everything (floppy was about all that was left) and when I plug the powercord in the power supply starts up. This is contrary to what I have learned about ATX power supplies; they supposedly need the PS-ON signal to power up, plus some load, none of which is present.

Any ideas?

I know for a fact that all newer Epox MOBOs support keyboard on, and this feature allows you to turn on the computer by touching any key in the keyboard and turn it on, have you tried to enable/disable it? Also maybe your power on button is stuck in the always on contact position. Good luck.
 
i have this same problem, but i have an abit be-6 II and PIII 850. i have the same antec case with pp-303x ps as well. anyone have any idea why the power supply stays on? i'm beginning to think it's just a stand by mode or something.

 
chmike: sounds like you have a short somewhere. Usually the power on pin on the ATX connector is open. I shorted the power-on to ground on my second ATX power supply to make it go on (Think my primary supply is defective. Testing to see if this fixes it)

drewdogg808: Try holding the power button in for about 4-5 seconds. This is the way my and many other ATX boards work. My board (Abit KA7) has an option in the BIOS to change it from power off to standby mode on a single press.
 
Agree with above holding the power button in for 5-10 seconds should shut down the computer, but unplugging things with the power running is risky business for sure......good way to take something out of commission in no time flat!
 
Just installed a new Antec 303x 2 weeks ago. No problems.
It does not have a master on/off switch in back...Greg
 
if i hold down the power button, then it will power down, but if i shut down through windows, in my previous case, everything shuts down, but not with this case. is this normal?
 
Mine won't turn off unless I cut power to the powersupply, by either turning off the power strip or pulling the plug from the back.

There is no master power switch on this power supply as someone else said. It will start up (fan) even when disconnected from everything else (disks, motherboard, fans, CD, etc). It seems that it should have to have the power on signal on pin 9(?) before it does anything, but that isn't the case....

oh, well, it got me to switch to Win2K from 98SE, as 98SE has even worse power/shutdown problems...

i think there is a switch that you plug into your mb from your ps that turns it off when you shut down. it shuts down automatically
 
Powering on and off of the PSU is dependant on and controlled by the motherboard itself.The first step is to try the shutdown patch from microsoft,if that does'nt help the mobo could have a problem.Also set power off options in the bios properly(usually default)
 
Don't know if this will help but here's my .02 cents. Some new systems(motherboards) have something called soft power-down. You need to hold the power button down for 5 seconds for the machine to turn off. Hope this helps.😀
Maybe I should try reading all the posts before I reply.😉 My suggestion was already suggested.
