Aren't ATX Mid Towers built for a specific size? I have a case that is 16.5"x7"x16.5"... I am looking around for a new case and some of these ATX Mid Towers like Thermaltake seem to be closer in size to a full tower. Am I that far out of the loop that cases are being made so much bigger? Some of these cases are just monters...

It seems these days that there are no true size specifications for towers... i've seen Mid Towers that could easily be considered a Full Tower.
Most newer cases are alot bigger than older ones of the same form factor.

I can now clearly see there is no standard. But there are a lot of case manufacturers throwing the words "mid-tower" around like used car salesmen. It's unreal.

Definately up to the consumer these days to check the dimensions before buying. The genius in me bought a mini-tower that just fit a standard ATX board, but the surprising thing is that the store I got it from has a different "model" of the case (same dimensions) listed as a mid-tower. Talking of the SLK1650B and 2650 of course:).

Mid-tower should be roughly 16 - 18" tall w/ theree or four 5" bays. Maxi-mid or super-mid is from there to 20" w/ maybe five or six 5" bays , over that to about 24" is full-tower land. And beyond that lies monster server territory.
