So my friend gave me his old snowboard- its a decent palmer but the bottom is kind of dirty-

After giving it an initial scrap and rub there is the appearance of dirt all over the bottom of the board- almost as if was absorbed into the layer of wood...

is there any way to make the board look new again?

thanks!

Grab a metal mesh you'd use to clean pots and scrape at it gently with some detergent.

Just go to a local shop and buy some base cleaner. I'm not exactly sure what kind but someone there will be able to help you. After it is cleaned with that, you'll need to re-apply wax since it probably dissolves it. If there is deep gouges in the bottom, I'm not sure how easy it is to do yourself but you could ask at the shop how much they would charge. You can probably repair small gouges yourself with P-tex. Finally if there is rust on the rails you could use some sandpaper to clean it up.

If it is really in bad shape, ask the shop how much it would cost for them to clean the base, fix any gouges, wax, and sharpen the rails. Although if there isn't any major damage, it would be much cheaper to buy the few things yourself and do them, although something like sharpening the rails I don't know how to do.

Chances are, the dirt is under a layer of wax or ground into the wax.

Either remove the wax with a scraper, or get some base cleaner. Then get it edged and waxed and it should be good as new as long as the base is still in good condition.

If you're going to do it yourself though, be careful not to destroy the layer of p-tex under the wax. Honestly, I'd take it to a shop and let them clean it. Then they'll re-wax, edge, and check on the bindings too.

Don't worry about it. Just get all the core shots filled and the edges done up. Remember, Core shots don't really matter too much unless they blow out the edges. Just keep waxing it and you should be fine.
