Yeah! Why should we test on poor defenseless animals? We should be testing on humans. It would cut down on a lot of research dollars!

which would you rather happen, they test (insert anything potentially harmful to people) on animals first before it goes to human markets, or just put it in the human market and see what happens?

No, I mean all testing. Methods using cultured human cells are far more accurate, but more expensive. In other words, science has advanced to the point where animals are no longer useful.

You are ignorant.

That's an understatement. :)

The article you are citing has one source, from 1987.

Boston Globe, June 13, 1987.

Perhaps an eclectic research article would be more fair.

Trial and error has outlived it's usefulness.

Are you kidding? That statement says everything in a lab is ready to rock and roll. Because computers are uber l33t we don't need the real world to test things.

The university itself knows nothing about science or it's methods. Some of the people working there might know certain specific things and could be considered experts on those specific things they do know. You on the other hand have displayed profound ignorance of both the subject matter involved and the methods, history and science involved.

Have a nice day. :)

Mmmmhmmm. I'll consider my experience in the lab enough to form a reasonable opinion, at least among the brain trust here. The fact that we've always done things a certain way isn't really a reason to keep doing them.

And for the record, I didn't mean to suggest that all animal testing in science is worthless. Some of it isn't. But too much of it is done simply because it's cheaper and faster.
