Anyone know a good / cheap hotel in Notting Hill? Access to Paddington Station would be nice but I am more interested in being around Notting Hill.

How about a youth hostile? If not go to your local book store & check a travel guide like lonely planet or rough guides.

I know how to do online searches and read travel guides. I was looking for a recommendation from someone who knows the neighborhood.

A guide might tell you that the <insert trendy name here>Inn in Manhattan is a good value, but only a New Yorker can tell you whether or not it's really a crack whore hideout.
