Attn: Folks into Flash animation/graphic design...question

I'm trying to get into Flash animation but am having difficulty designing my art with a mouse. I see some people use a tablet to design. Is this the way to go? Do most people use a tablet when designing digital cartoons? I'm just starting out with Flash design and don't want to fork over any big bucks unless I get serious about it. If a tablet is the way to go, what kind is appropriate for a novice user? Any help would be great.

I have trouble with designing on the computer too. I usually sketch the image out onto paper, then scan it in and trace the image in illustrator or flash with the bezier tool. I think that's your best best as a beginner until you get used to the tools.

you can draw an image, then use adobe streamline to turn it into vector art.
