i've got an Asus A7M266 motherboard and i'm running a thunderbird at 1.4 ghz not overclocked. i'm using a Globalwin WBK68 HSF to cool the cpu and this thing is really noisy and buggin the hell out of me when i'm not listening to music. i was looking into get an Alpha 8045 heatsink and add a fan but according to this site, the heatsink seems to be incompatible with my motherboard. so i want to know what other a7m266 owners are using for their cpu cooling, and if its effective for a 1.4ghz cpu and if its quiet. if the alpha 8045 does work unlike the website says, please say so. my price range is about $30-35 for the heatsink alone, and links would be appreciated. thanks

I have an A7M266 with a 1.33 running @ 1.45. My heatsink of choice has been the Thermalright SK-6. You can probably pick one up in your price range without much trouble. The performance is terrific and there was no problem fitting it on the MB/CPU.
For other options, many have talked about the AX-7 but it might be a bit more. You could also try an SVC Golden Gate (all copper) HS that can be found on this site. They are an excellent online retailer. The Golden Gate is a good performer. You don't have to use the high rpm fan to get that performance either. I used one on a build with a 1.13 Athlon and the temps were below that of my CPU. Of course, it was not overclocked either.
My CPU runs about 39-40C at idle in a fairly warm room and 45-48 C under stress in that same warm room. Temps here in the summer in this room can reach as high as 90F. At that point the cpu will venture over the 50 C mark but remains stable.

A7M266-D with 2 x XP1800+ using 2 thermalright sk-6s with 80mm panaflo. Processors sit around 48-50C under full load.
