I would think that it would be much easier to build a Linux box for about the same price.

Of course, it wouldn't be as cool as an Xbox. Probably not the same graphics power either.

This is cool if you already have an Xbox, but I can't see running out and grabbing one just because of this.

NForce mobo - $65
Athlon XP 1600 - $55
128 MB RAM $30
40 GB HD - $65
12X DVD-ROM - $30

That's the price of an Xbox and modchip right there. Grab a cheap case & power supply, maybe a TV tuner card and/or remote, upgrade the video if you have games in mind, and you've got something that will do everything a modded Xbox will and more for about the same amount of money.

Or for those who don't want to bother fixing a system up, just buy the $299 walmart special. Faster system, better specs, hacking not required.

Graphcs card would be irrelevant since either system would be too sluggish for running xwindows.
