I saw something strange tonight. I was watching JAG (8:00pm EST) tonight, and part of the show had SETI running on the commander's PC, with a repetitive signal pattern showing up. The person that was responsible got excited and was trying to contact the SETI folks. The Commander came in and asked what was going on, and the person was explaining about it checking radio signals looking for aliens.

Now here's the wierd part. Right at the time the commander asked what program was it, and the person started to say SETI@HOME, the TV screen went blank and the sound went off for a second or two and didn't come back on until the commander asked where they were located and the person said University of California. all we heard was Se...... :Q:Q

Now talk about a conspiracy theory. What if the aliens interrupted the signal because they didn't want the general population to know about the SETI@HOME program. Hmmmmmmmmm...

Somebody on the West Coast watch it and see if the same thing happens. :Q:Q

They did have some great screen shots of the SETI GUI working with the colored graphs up. 😀 Too bad everyone didn't hear what the program was. 🙁

 
LOL Ray... seemed alot of folks have been posting about that JAG ep tonite (particularly on Ars)... 🙂

Ray... didn't get chance to watch (actually, I've never watched JAG... I was always partial to Knight Rider and nothing could take the place of that! 😛)

And I'm actually glad I'm in this thread with you because I think this one will make me Golden! Just like the cane... 🙂

Did you ever watch the Knight Rider motorcycle series? Hehe, didn't last long.

Oh, and I meant did anyone at ARS post about a second or two blackout? I was just trying to see if it was a local thing or widespread. (gotta try to keep going with the conspiracy theory 😉)

That was my fav show though (along with the A-team, Remington Steele, Cheers, and all the other cool NBC series back in the day!)

I even bought one of those plastic car models for that Trans-am... 😉

In fact, when I was in L.A. back in '87, I went on the Universal Studios tour and saw one of the actual K.I.T.T. cars that they used for the show! 😀

Man... those were the days... LOL

And yeah... Golden-hood was hard to come by, but was achieved with not a post in Offtopic... 😉 (I hang out in the CPU/Mobo/Cooling forums too...)

[EDIT - oh... and no one mentioned a blackout. Interestingly, Roelof Engelbrecht (author of SetiSpy) was one of the topic starters on it and got his "Wise, Aged Ars Veteran" status with his post! LOL]
 
I didn't watch the show since I'm at work 🙁 but my wife watches occassionally, and she called me to tell me that she saw "my SETI program" on the show and that they were talking about it. I asked her about an audio black-out and she says that there might have been, but she's not sure since a good portion of her attention was being given to our baby.. 🙂
 
And Poof, you shouldn't mention all of those GREAT shows in one sentence, since it REALLY makes me wish I could go back to the TV series' of 10-15 years ago rather than the generally crappy stuff that's on now!! 😉

I don't normally watch JAG, I'll try to see if the audio blackout is carried on the offset showing here in Hawaii.

Knight Rider, A-Team...two of the programs that can make me go home instead of hangging out in the school or work-at least until I got a portable TV😉

The good thing about cable late at night here is that they are running some of those shows! Bravo shows St. Elswhere, A-team was on for awhile, McGuyver is still running, Charlies Angels, etc...*sigh*, "Those were the days..." 😉😉

Wow! How could I forget the king of all space shows, Battlestar Galactica!? When I was a kid I programmed a VCR and hid it in my room under my bed so it would always record that show and nobody could change the settings to stop the scheduled recording! 🙂 Of course, that only lasted until I got in trouble because the VCR was missing.. 😛

Little Prince, I live in Ohio, so pretty far. Maybe someone here has a thing against SETI (or there are aliens nearby :Q)
