Attention old farts like me - reading glasses.

I'm looking for a good pair of readers. Not the 3 for 10 bucks Walmart crap. I want a good pair of 1.5's that are fairly light, sit on my head when not in use, and don't make me look like my dad. My dad was handsome I'll admit, but I'd rather be my own man. I'd pay up to $50 for a pair, since I might sit on them or lose them. I have a pair of those $20 ones that supposedly fit in your wallet and stick to the nose like Morpheus's do, but they actually suck for everyday use.

I don't like the super cheap ones, but I don't spend too much either. They have a way of getting bent up or lost. I like Foster Grants. Costco occasionally has a big pack on sale. I also just got a pair I like at CVS, their own version for around $10.

Eye exam around here is $60 and single vision glasses from Zinni start at $7 plus $5 shipping.

Why not just get a proper prescription?

Edit: If you have insurance the exam may be free.

I'm right there...my last appointment I ended up having to get a combo of old and new prescriptions so that I could at least somewhat see my phone when I have contacts in. I've never had great eyesight, but this is f'ng annoying.

Say what? You don't need a prescription for readers lol.

I wouldn't call it a "prescription" per se, they basically test you to determine what power your eyes need for reading. Even though you can go to an optometrist for it, most people can just find what works for them right at the drug store. I did have mine tested simply because I had Lasik a year ago, and as you know you have frequent check-ups throughout the first year after to check on your eyes after that, and they did it for me during one of those.

I don't know anyone that's gone in just for a prescription for readers, usually it's part of a regular eye exam if applicable.

Unless you are also myopic. I am dreading bifocals, maybe trasitions. Already have to hold smartphone a bit further to read.

Some books I've had for years I go back to reread and the font has mysteriously shrunk. May have to cave and pick up some readers at Costco.

Talk about annoying.

Progressives? Hated them. The focus was only in the center of the lens so I had to move my head side to side instead of just my eyes and the distance focus was too far up on the lens so I had to hold my head down while driving.

My current set up is a bit of a pita but I can see. 2 pairs of bifocals. 1 for reading/distance. 1 for reading and 2-6'ish, ~the distance to my monitor and my customers when I'm at work.

I ended up getting these recently. Sight Pros

They are very light and I have them in various places in the house. It appears they have a 50% of coupon right now.

Edit: Yes I know they are cheap, but going by price doesn't mean quality. Sunglasses are a perfect example of that.
