Attention Newegg

I know Newegg reads these forums and actively scans them for keywords and reads the comments. Well, here are some comments.

Stop changing the damn web site. Seriously, are your webdevs bored with nothing to do? Stop changing the layout simply for the purpose of changing it. This happens every few months and it's getting old. Leave the damn thing alone.

Now, this evening, the layout has changed yet again and there is a gigantic "May We Suggest" section right in the center of the page. On top of that, the product information you actually want to see, for the product your looking at, is below it.

I can also see changes have been made to the guided search once again.

Every time you change something the design and layout gets busier and more ads make it on the screen. Seriously, just stop.

I know I am not the only person bothered about this. I have a 5K order on hold. It may stay on hold.

NewEgg corporate HQ is only 5 minutes from my office... want me to transcribe what you wrote into a sticky note and stick it on their office door/fridge?

Have the OP pony up for a couple of pizzas to be delivered to the Web dev team. Food goes a long ways. Attach the note to one of the boxes.

5K order on hold and you aren't going to place it because of a layout change? Sometimes, I think people just post shit just so people can know what they have...either that or show how incredibly shallow they are.

They layout change was unnecessary but it isn't going to stop my heart to have to see things in different places.

Lot of companies are bad for changing stuff just for the sake of change. Google and Microsoft are really bad for that especially lately. It seems to be a trend. I'd say it's people trying to justify their jobs, but normally these type of changes are management decisions.

True that, but Newegg's hardware search is head and shoulders above Amazon.

Yeah I actually love their search and overall interface for finding stuff. I often search for stuff on newegg than see if NCIX or Tigerdirect has it. :D I like the store thing too, like Supermicro store and what not.

Only thing I don't like about Newegg is the slow shipping, but that's mostly because they're US based so shipments have to go through the border, so not really their fault.

lol at $5k thinking he can flex on Amazon.

I order pretty much every few days from Amazon. I don't have any issues with their web development.

theyre in a business thats relying on trends to stay competitive. they have to keep refreshing their store front. people would get sick of going back if they didnt.

really? thats the worst part about amazon... their site is a pretty big mess. but it does work and its not horrible to use so it passes as acceptable.

No, they are in the business of selling computer hardware - they have made a name doing it for a decade. Website design trends have nothing to do with it.

they r scanning these forums?

well then , i love the newegg layout designs. a refresh is needed every so often. i am sure there are dozens of project managers, developers, architects, testers, focus groups, etc that meet and make the decision. its not so simple to just go and change layouts

I can't believe I'm agreeing with alkemyst but I don't have a problem with the layout changes on Amazon or Newegg.

I actually find Newegg's latest code and layout their fastest. Amazon is too cluttered and plodding, and they charge tax to NY. Amazing how big Amazon and eBay became with such poor web design, especially eBay. Though I shop with all three.

Of course what we all do is to find the hardware on newegg and then search for it on Amazon. Thanks Newegg!

Or I'm over at my local Microcenter pricematching Newegg. Mainly I have it setup to get Amazon shipments at work so its much easier. Or stop at MC on my way home. But sit at home and wait for UPS? No thanks.

The design of Newegg doesn't bother me too much, but what is bothering me is how they're starting to mimic amazon, where when you search for stuff, you not only get results from what Newegg is selling from their warehouses, but also their marketplace crap. With amazon, I can at least filter out most of it by searching for "Prime eligible items only," but I haven't figured out how to do that on Newegg.

if they were just pushing hardware geared for people repairing systems their site would look like mouser or something.

they are pushing half their hardware that most people dont really need. every year there is new flashier stuff that really isnt better then last years... but they gotta sell it somehow. newegg is all about seeming trendy to produce more sales.

This. Plus their return policy blows newegg away. Last time I returned a item defective not only did newegg make me pay for the return they tried to charge me a restocking fee.

i hate ordering things. its convenient..etc. i just hate having oversized boxes that say in huge letters "Newegg"..etc on every side leaned up against my front door, sometimes 3x's larger than the item. Though i never had a problem, if i were a burgler type person and saw that at someones porch often, i'd know what place i'd want to ransack.
