I know TA has been bringing in a lot of the new members... here are a few tips:

1) CACHE WORK UNITS.... with all the recent trouble Seti@home has been having with their school... it'd be a shame to see idle CPU cycles.... WASTED.... so either join a SetiQueue server, or run a local cacheing program.

2) Use the CLI, it makes an unbelieveable difference in work unit time.... only problem, its not purty.... who gives a rats...... bottom. AND add it to "Startup" in your Start menu.. as to be sure it runs ALL the time

3) Have Fun... well... this is kinda self explanitory.

4) Visit the DC forum for infos and tidbits on Seti stuffs.

5) Read this guide to setting up setidriver.... MANY MANY thanks Smokeball

6) See Tip #1

7)If i have missed anything... inform me and i'll add it....

Here are a Few setiQueue servers as posted by ShuxClams Earlier:

orangekid.teamanandtech.com, port 5001..............................Provided by Orangekid

siren.2y.net:5001.................................................................. provided by MaxSiren

www.scarieville.com:5517........................................ provided by Shuxclams

seti.tacube.com:5517...................................................... provided by Russ

teamanandtech.d2g.com:5001......................... provided by ConfusedBW

federation.2y.net:443..................................................... provided by Engineer

And of course... i have to add my new setiQ server http://fifthfactor.dns2go.com:5501

i think thats it....

I would add that you can drop in a copy of SETISPY into the CLI folder. You'll get some the trappings of a nice GUI, with some purty graphics (sky map, gaussians, etc...).

Hey guys, new cruncher here. Just wondering if I'm running this seti driver thing, which I hopefully setup right, am I caching or do I need to setup a queue too?

Seti Driver is an addon to the CLI version of SETI, you will have to download it seperately... you can find it in the link of my sig, or in the link in my post at the top, once you get it, follow the instructions on that page... hopefullly this clears everything up..... i reccomend no less than 4 days of cached work units... this may seem like a lot, but when the servers go down, and you cant connect for 3 days, you'll thank me ;)

True..... but he is an engineer... he should be at least be able to multitask.... and get here within 40 MIN! cmon.... Engineer, you needa keep up with this stuff, you're starting to act like certain OS's by certain companies. *cough* M$ *cough*

I like to see as many WU's come in from the newbies, also, by running all of this, and reading the article by Smokeball, it gets them more informed on how the seti sysem works.... MORE MORE MORE!!!!

no... Seti driver does the Caching, under desired cache size whatever the number is in there is what your cached Work unit count is.

NEF... err BUMP! Good work Factor5. With Berkeley having so much trouble, caching is extremely important.
