I read a post by one guy who got his Fry's Q6600 (non-G0) up to 3.6ghz, but he didn't mention voltages or what kind of cooling he used.

People are saying that the G0 cores will usually hit 4ghz. If 15-25% more performance means alot to you, then wait.

From what I've read, most current Q6600s will hit anywhere from 3ghz to 3.6ghz.

On air ? I have 2 Ninja scythe coolers, and am hoping for 3.2-3.3 on close to stock vcore. I don;t want to risk the price diff, availability etc.. for a few hundred extra mhz... 4 ghz on air ????

I'm pretty sure 4ghz on air is what I read (although it might have been water).

You should be able to hit 3.4ghz pretty easily even on a non-G0 core.

I would wait for G0 if I were you; it looks like a pretty major boost.

I sent tank guys an email asking how much and availability, no reply... I will cancel one of the two q6600 from frys', and see what happens later on the G0, then maybe make my other one tank guys (if they ever respond)

Edit: I wnet to go cancel one of the two I ordered, now they tell me its in the warehouse, because they got a bunch in today, so I can;t change the order, I will have to return it ! Well, thats good news and bad. Unless of course they are G0...

So how do I tell if its G0 ????

you can use cpu-z. but i doubt you will get a g0, since they are supposed to be shipped on around the 22nd of july.

The 1333FSB CPUs are all G0 steppings and those will be released on 7/22. The G0 stepping is starting to make its way to the 1066 parts and if you are lucky, might just show up tomorrow or it could be next month depending on distributor stock and FIFO practices.

Use Nmonitor for voltages.

I paid about 100 more then what you guys are paying for and its a B3. The heat on it @ 3.6 is not funny tho.

I dont recomend the B3 if you plan to overclock. People on XS with g0 ES. are pushing 4ghz on water, and 3.6ghz @ 1.375V, which makes it perfectly doable on air.

So if you want just a mild overclock on these girls, then go for the B3, if you want high overclocks, your best bang is on the G0 steppings.


Mark also i dont think you'll get a G0, because release date is estimated at in september according to dailytech article i once read. They just came off NDA's as per say on XS with people posting them.

If you have a bad quadcore, and you used the intel sink, i think if you RMA, you will get a G0.

Gary Key just wrote that AT is running 4.01 on water and 3.7 on air with a G0 stepping. Those are both ridiculously good on a quad core. Gary, what were you guys able to get with the b3 steppings when they originally came out?

RMA'ing to get a new revision ? Thats not ethical, there is nothing wrong with it, then you shouldn;t. Update the BIOS.

afaik, a cpu stepping of SLACR is G0, i got SL9UM (B3)

eVGA does it automatically. when you register, it recognizes that you have the AR revision and gives you the option to RMA to get the A1 revision. Nothing non-ethical about it.

The only thing good about the EVGA 680i is the service behind it, if you have the AR or A1.

Other then that, the board sucks hardcore. Its not the company that has been flamed, its NVIDIA.

And yes, i had a AR, and evga was nice enough to swap it for a A1 when it had no issues. I love the company EVGA, there the fastest in RMA, and also the best tech support if you live in the USA.

EVGA Europe however is a different story from what im hearing.

My RMA board is coming in soon as well, i burnt something out on it while running my quadcore at 3.6

The vdroop on it gets extremely bad. Sometimes as bad as .3

So at 1.55Vcore, with a -.3 vdroop, the voltage drops to 1.25 and windows along with bios and everything will crash. Notified EVGA, and they sent me a replacement that should arrive today.

I love EVGA, but the 680i board is definitely something people should look away from. X38 or P35 FTW!

I have an ASUS P5K (P35) coming for one quad, the other will run on a DS3. I hope for 3.2-3.4 on the DS3, and who knows on the P5K. Both air cooling (ninja scythe), and I don't want to go very high on vcore (heat!!!)

let me know how you do on those mobos with the quad cores. I was leaning towards a p35 ds3, but I am now unsure about overclocking quads on them. I wonder how much the equivalent board in x38 will be...

the consenus over at xs all agree for a cheap excellent quadcore overclocking board, you cant beat the ABIT IP35-E

Its cheap as dirt at newegg, 114. And its a very good overclocker. I would recomend some annodized alu microsinks for the mosfets tho. And this version doesnt come with 2x pci-e

Its a great crunching board.

The next board i highly recomend would be the Gigabyte P35-DS3P.

The best board from what members and reviews say would be the Asus P5K-deluxe. And its on sale right now at frys for 189.99


Stay away from the 680i unless you absolutely need SLI.

cant really answer questions on ASUS, as i dont own them.

I have a Gigabyte P35, and a 680i.

I do recomend the P35, but its a fairly expensive board at 169.

The abit IP35-E which is basically the same layout minus the second pci-e of the IP35-pro would be my first choice in a crunching setup.

But i did hear that the p5K's from asus all perform near the same. You just dont get the nice options as the p5k deluxe.
