Fry's has the q6600 for $300 today only with ecs board, or just the retail boxed cpu at Fry's.com.

The batch info, etc. Can be found either on the chip itself or on the side of the retail box. The G0 stepping version of the Q6600 should be slowly trickling out soon and has a better chance of hitting high clockspeeds. the G0 version also is rated for higher operating temperature and is a 95w TDP chip instead of the current 110w Q6600 stepping.

If you happen to get a G0 stepping then you should be in for a treat. We are seeing right over 4.01GHz on water, about 3.7GHz on air with our two samples.

(from a business point of view)

why is Fry's doing this ?

maybe ... sell 20 or 50 Q6600's for a loss, then put the other 1000 or 5000 orders
on back-order - to "lock in" that business ?

"on back order, will be shipped July 25"

for the people that are going for it, i'm curious what delivery dates people are
getting.

I called last night, and they said in-stock, now the order says back-ordered.

I just called. He says 600 are back-ordered, and 100 coming this week, 200 2 weeks from now, and the guaranteed date is Aug 20th ! This is the last time I order from Fry's

I just called Fry's, and they cancelled my order, saying that they "don't ship intel products out of the country". Very strange. I'm just gonna wait for a G0 anyways (I didn't know about the stepping until after I had placed my order).

OK, I called to cancel my order, and now they say they have a large shipment coming in this week. Do you think the G0 stepping is worth waiting 2-3 weeks for ?

It depends.

I read a post by one guy who got his Fry's Q6600 (non-G0) up to 3.6ghz, but he didn't mention voltages or what kind of cooling he used.

People are saying that the G0 cores will usually hit 4ghz. If 15-25% more performance means alot to you, then wait.

From what I've read, most current Q6600s will hit anywhere from 3ghz to 3.6ghz.
