But just rent the equipement. Should be plenty of shops there locally.

If you think you can catch huge fish that have sharp teeth with 8lb test line, go for it :thumbsup:
For a decent saltwater rig, you're looking at $300+ for halfway decent gear. $1,000.00+ for the good stuff. A nice reel will run you about $400.00+

LOL, that's for fish tank fishing. You'll need some hardcore rods for ocean fishing.

What exactly are you going fishing for? If it's just a short day trip then you should just rent something. For shore fishing you need a very long pole and a good conventional reel, although a spinning reel "might" do ok.

Kidding aside.......... when I was 11, I caught a 14-15lb channel cat in the st johns river with a Zebco 202 reel/10lb test line. Catching fish on smaller gear is possible but for saltwater fishing, unless you're on shore, I would go with a better setup ;)
