I just received a nasty e-mail from InsightBB (my ISP) instructing me to shutdown my server or they will shut me down! :( :|

I've got a call into them right now, but no response yet.....

I may not have much choice in the matter at this time....but here are the options:

I convince them that this isn't a server and they leave it alone (not likely)...

I turn off the STATS and VIEW pages...but WU's continue to work (not sure if I can do that or not....but I need to just in case)...

I turn off the full Queue to the outside world and only use in extreme emergency......:(

I could remap the Queue to another IP if someone wanted to host one for the Federation (and the rest of the TeAm) on port 443 (nice to have port 443 open as it can get past many firewalls)....maybe reroute to CADKindaGuy's queue as he is open on port 443?

Will keep you all updated....this sucks! :|

Ah yes - the joy of Broadband via cable
rolleye.gif
I too had cable(mediacom/AT&T) service but I also recieved a nastygram or 2 so I switched to DSL and they couldn't give a hoot less about "servers."

Did they inform how they arrived at the conclusion you were running a server? When I got the phone calls and emails - they never told me how exactly they went about finding it. I never had anything on port 80 (at the time) or 21;) When asked they never gave me a real answer so I gave them the bird and switched.

If you need to remap to my Queue go ahead and do so Engineer, It should be able to handle the load;)

CkG

PS - check the "contract" you signed to make sure it states that no servers are allowed. If it doesn't state on your contract, then they can't make you remove it;) That is how I held them off until my renewal came up(I paid for 12months at a time) at which point they sent a NEW contract that had a "server" clause in in :(
Also be sure to get a clarification of "server" - because technically Kazaa and the like are basically a "server" and be sure to point out that you hope that those types of "servers" are targeted too since it sucks everyones bandwidth.;)

Engineer,

I may be able to help. Do you use one (1) Q or multiple Qs?

I have TeAm Smokeball all setup on Q0002 at the current time.

I'll setup a separate PORT just for you. Let me know.

:Q Not good. I will have to go change some computers around if you have to take it down :( Keep us posted. Also is it still okay to be sending through your queue? I didn't see that in your post. Good luck!

Thanks,
Brett

A few quick clarifications....

Right now, the queue is running as I haven't had a chance to shut of off....must go home first as I can't VNC through the firewall at work! and...since I haven't talked to a real person yet, I'm not going to do anything just yet. I may try to shut down the web portion of the queue and see how that goes.....but that's bad as you can't monitor your stats, etc.

As to anyone using the queue, my goal is to leave it running....but, if I can't, I'll try to remap the IP over to another kind TeAmmate's queue so that nobody has to change a thing and WU's just continue to flow.....the only bad part is losing the stats from my queue :( (Sorry everyone! :( )

Thanks CKG and Smokeball for the offers......I'll let you know what I/they come up with...as soon as they call. I've got a feeling that they won't call back and will just shut me off.....I calculated the totals and its between 200 and 300 megs per day....but since 100 or so come from my fleet, it would be between 100 and 200 added to someone else's load....hopefully not killing their connection.

Thanks and again, sorry TeAm!

My general PORT NUMBER is the usual default of 5517. I'm not sure if it would really make a difference but I could provide a different port number to each person. I've allocated 100 PORTs for this purpose. It is my understanding that each unique SETI EMAIL ADDRESS will automatically create a NEW Q so there may not actually be any additional steps necessary ... Just change your Proxy Server to: HOST: smokeball.dns2go.com PORT: 5517

I could do a limited amount of customizing such as I have done for TeAm Smokeball.

TeAm Smokeball Clients

I've assigned each of my TS members a unique PORT so I can keep stats on each one individually. ;)

It's not your fault your ISP is a bunch of @$$hats ;) I can get to all of the machines that are crunching for me and change the queue if need be, and there are only 3 outside of my house that would need to be changed. Thanks for the update :)

Okay, well if you can forward to other queues so it's transparent that saves me(and others) some hassle on our end. :)

To be honest, I can't recall the last time I checked my stats on the Web version of the queue.. I just let most of the machines crunch away completely unattended and only watch for large drop-offs in production.

Not sure how I would re-direct but seti.scarieville.com:5517 can handle as many as need to move. I have spare IP's (3) and a router but lack a machine to put behind it at the moment. What I could do is have you send the "whole enchilada" RAR'd or ZIPped and I could use my DNS to point it at my SHUXTECH.NET IP that has a spare machine on it and name it federation.shuxtech.net:443. BTW: a QUEUE already exsists under "Seti User - ID3186629" which came up as the Federation on the seti.scarieville.com SETIQ if that helps.

Hmmmm..... IF it's possible to "hijack" a 2y.net addy (federation.2y.net:443) then I can host the site short term by reassigning the DNS pointer to resolve the the shuxtech IP. LMK

Engineer - I wonder if you can zip up your queue's directory of files and send them off to whoever in the Feddie ring will host it... and then you might be able to save the stats.... ???

I will monitor this thread... LMK what you all decide so I can edit the TeAm queue thread.

Well, just got off the phone with Insightbb and, although he was nice about it, pretty much said if they can see it come up (or scan for it) and it's available to the public, then it's a no-no. :(

So I've got to think about my choices....

I've got control over the Federation.2y.net address as it's mine (I paid DHS.org for it)....so I can remap it to any IP that I feel like...but that IP would have to be hosting a queue on port 443 (such as CKG is doing).....I can't do a port forward, only a whole new IP. Anyone running this queue would need to be able to handle the 200 or so megs per day (Maybe less, as my home fleet and work fleet (via CDRW) would still be here on the home queue...just no outside people).....I know CKG said it's OK with him......just to make sure, CKG...you still up to that much data transfer? It goes in spurts....but I usually don't notice it all that much?

If anyone else wants (really wants) to run a queue dedicated to port 443, I'll consider it. I'm really sorry about this.....I just don't know what else to do....except map the Fed's ID over to another IP (with the 443 queue) to avoid anyone having to mess with their clients. Whoever does run the queue, I'll dedicate my Dual 1.4GHz TBird system to your SETI account for the life of the project (or as long as you're running the queue ;) )...

Thanks for being a great TeAm......but I somehow feel like I've let you all down.....damn port scanners from Insightbb! :(

Not a problem Engineer :)

I wouldn't have volunteered it if I didn't think I could handle the traffic ;)

Let me know if there are any issues with the switch over :)

Thank you...:D

Send me your e-mail addy for SETI and I'll get the Dual rig running under it right away...that's the least I can do for you. Also, if you don't mind, I'll let my work queue flush through you as it's a pain to CDRW WU's back and forth...and I already have it set to flush between 3:00AM and 6:00 AM...Eastern Time....so it shouldn't bother your bandwidth....:)

Thanks so much....switching now! :)

CKG's IP has now been entered for Federation.2y.net and should propogate down to the DNS's soon. I'll leave my end up here for a little while....but because of CKG's kindness, nobody has to switch any clients (unless they just want to) because he runs the Queue on port 443....so a simple IP remap of the Fed name was all it took. Thanks again...and happy cruching to all my TeAmmates! :D

Engineer- how about you keep that dually crunching for the Feds:) Sure it'd be nice to gain the production for my acct but it wouldn't feel right;)

YHPM - in a sec

***Note to Fed users****
you shouldn't have to change any settings on your rigs :) You should also be able to check you stats with the using the same links you did before(i think).

shoot me a PM if you ever have problems with the Queue :)

Thanks Engineer, for your Queue, and thanks CKG for stepping up and offering to take over. I've been on the Fed queue for nearly (at least, almost, somewhere in between or over) a year now; switched from OK's queue after the bandwidth probs).
Even though I'm not in the Fed, I'm proud to have been a privateer in the fleet ;) I'll never forget my 1:42 WU with you1:42 WU .

Thanks Engineer, for all the hard work! Even though I'm not vocal, I'm here and appreciate the work you and all the others do for us AT'ers!! Thanks CKG for the bandwidth for the queue. I'm only one machine, but lemme know if I need to switch to another queue, or start one...
