yup, that's my dad's 9-3 in the background 😛 and you're right about it's category. i probably would have gone for either a TSX or an A4 at the time (1.5 years ago).

my 6 is the 220hp v6, and i'm fairly confident that it can beat out the 2.3l mazda3. actually my dad's SO has the mazda3 and i really have to say that i'm a little dissappointed w/ the engine, although it's the slower 2.0l version.

also, the 6 does come in a hatchback actually, although it's almost indestinguishable from the sedan. hatch. of course, there's also the wagon.

i do agree w/ you though, in that the mazda3 is a clear winner over all other cars in it's class. although i feel that the m6 also wins this title for it's class, i'm obviously biased because i chose this car over the other available models 😛.

Why a camry?

Personally, I prefer the look of the current camry to the accord, and toyota's reliability is a little better, but overall theyare quite close to each other. So it would come down to personal preference, and price. Consumer reports ranks them very closely (both get "excellent" score and recommended) , giving a slight edge to the camry. Here's consumer reports review summary of the accord:

The Honda Accord is among our top-rated family sedans. Handling is more agile and the ride is steadier and more compliant than the pre-2003 model's. The cabin is roomy and controls are intuitive. A telescoping steering column helps drivers find an ideal seating position. The Accord is quiet, though less so than the Toyota Camry and VW Passat. The new five-speed automatic shifts very smoothly and responsively. The four-cylinder engine is smoother than many V6s. Head-protection air bags come only on the top-line EX V6. The V6 model is very quick and relatively fuel efficient. Touches such as the ability to open all windows through the key fob are nice. Crash-test results are impressive.

And Camry:

The Camry is among our top-rated family cars, with the Honda Accord and Volkswagen Passat. The 2.4-liter Four is outstanding. Handling is predictable and secure, but middling tire grip limits its capability. Steering response has improved but still feels a bit light. The XLE is fitted with wider, grippier tires that improve agility and braking. The V6 is smooth, quiet, and responsive; a larger 3.3-liter V6 arrived for the SE version. The lack of a telescoping wheel compromises the driving postion for some drivers. The front seats are comfortable but could benefit from better thigh support.

The thing is, I wouldn't expect either of these cars to be especially fun to drive, even with the V6. The Mazda, and VW would be better for that.

slightly used a4 1.8-audi's resale value after one or two years is crap, but thats good for you🙂 used 3/5. if you want american, caddilac sts is the same way, but that will eat gas. Warcrow-do you have 25k in cash? Or are we talking cars that actually are 25k?

Yes, mazda 6 is a very good car, but I haven't really looked closely at the family sedan category, so I can't say for sure if it's the absolutely best one there. Consumer reports seems to rank it a little below the accord and camry on overall quality, but I'm sure it's actually more fun to drive. Yours looks great, except that I would get the manual transmission, as I prefer that to automatic (I would even pay more for manual, although usually it's cheaper).

9/4 UPDATE!

Its done! I bought a certified pre-owned 2003 G35 in pristine condition for $26,137. It has everything except for heated seats (I think the 2003 model didnt have that feature) and the Navi system. But I got the Bose system, sun/moon roof, all leather, 6 disk CD changer, OMFG its incredible. There is still plenty a warranty on it! 😀

Thats to everyone that helped. Pictures will be posted very soon 🙂

What kind of warranty did you get on it? That the OTD price?

It's a '91 with under 100k, original motor/tranny/turbo. Aquamarine pearl factory paint (actually has the clear coat, unlike the red, black, and white MR-2's that tend to fade). It's a hardtop with sunroof, all papers and clean carfax. I paid $7500 for it in Seattle, which is over KBB but about par with the going rate here. I saw an NA w/ 140k go for 6500 last week, and I've never seen a turbo sell for under 7k. Book is only like 5k or less on the turbo and 3k on the NA, but it's not at all realistic.

This car amazed me compared to all of the others I drove, the turbo pulls hard the whole way and there's no wobble or play that I could detect. The owner had done the full catback exhaust/intake/bov/timer etc so if I ever wanted to make it faster all of the prep work is pretty much in place, although it's pretty scary fast as it is on those lonely winding roads up the hill toward my house. New Yokohoma tires (the backs are an inch wider than the fronts) as well.

If you do decide to get one, be careful of the oversteer b/c the back end can snap around very quickly and spin the car, does not handle at all like my last turbo Toyota which was front engine and had a LSD, in addition to being a half ton heavier. I'd take it out in an empty parking lot to get a feel for the limits of the car before throwing it around any corners. 😀 Also, the front end is very light on the freeway. Have to be wary of large puddles and such. PM me if you want anymore info, I spent a lot of time researching these things. Fun cars.
