So my 2.5 yr old has now been transferred from the crib to a twin bed. I am expecting my 2nd child on Oct. 11th thus the necessary transition!

He has'nt been too bad, but I'm still struggling with trying to get him to stay in the bed. If any parent pros out there have any suggestions, I'd be more than happy to hear them!! :)

Tell him there is a monster lurking under the bed with a vile proboscis, waiting to suck out his innards should he set foot on the floor.

Boy, that's a tough one. My first 2 were 2.25 yrs apart, and I just went ahead and bought a 2nd crib because it was nice to have the familiarity and confines of the crib for #1.

For the little ones like you have it seems like the only time the "big bed" works is if you can stay with them until they fall asleep, story or backrub sort of thing.

Congrats on the impending :D

I dunno, we never had a crib. We went from co-sleeping to toddler bed in our room to toddler bed in kid's room with no fighting or excessive getting-out-of-bed at all with both our kids. :shrugs;

we just did this move oureselves. my daughter is a little over 2 years old.

we just devolped a nightly retiuel at bad time.

First she climbes in bed and i tuck her in. then i read to her for about 15 minutes (lights down low). this usually works.

IF not then i have some duct tape under the bed. :p

My 2 Y/O is still in the crib. Don't know how much longer that's going to last though. I'm sure he'll be wandering around the house after we put him to bed soon.

If you think of something be sure to let me know. :)

Start a routine and read a book, play some music or sing some songs for a bit, tell him you'll be back to check on him in a few minutes, and followup. Gradually increase the time between visits.

Persistance and Patience.

Maybe Bribery. If you sleep in your bed all night.... etc....

I don't know. PM or post back with what works, I'm interested.

Just moved my 3 year old autistic son into a toddler bed (like a real bed but uses his crib mattress).

We bring him in our bed and snuggle w/him until he's asleep (usually 20-30 minutes). Then we carry him to his bed and put him in.

Haven't had a problem with him getting out....yet.....he used to only sleep 3 hours a night until we started various supplements/training (I was really glad for a crib then but we'd still have to get up and help him...):p

we kept the routine the same, and had no troubles. of course, they would get out every now and then, but they still do that now.

hey that's pretty nice. my nephew is about 2.5 years old and he's not liking his crib anymore. Maybe this is the solution.

You've got him sleeping on a moronic mutant sponge! I'd get up too.

Just hang in there, it all works out eventually.

I remember my dad laying in bed with me until I fell asleep. That helped. :) But, that was when I moved the basement when I was 5. I dont' remember how they kept me in the bed before that.

Not much you can do. My kid is 4 and STILL gets out of bed. Sneaks into our bed and night. I'll wake up with a stiff back, roll over, and find out the little booger is the reason why :)
