Are Mennonite services similar? I've never attended at either a Quaker meeting or a Mennonite service.

I never have either. I'm not Christian, but If I were forced to belong to a church, the Quakers seemed appealing from what I've read. Services are spent in quiet reflection. If somebody feels the need to speak, they get up and speak. They're very Jesus like in their disposition, and follow Jesus' teaching fairly strictly. No hate for anyone, and no violence. I'd suspect they're somewhat close to the Mennonites, but I really don't know much about them.

I grew up Catholic. The services were too rigid, and forced. I didn't learn much, and the tedium was mind numbing.

We have a sizable Mennonite congregation where I live. Their church is about 1500 feet away from my house. Don't know anything about them except that the Amish split from Mennonites a long time ago.

Good luck going to a decent synagogue down here, or at least in Statesboro. Probably some decent ones in ATL though. However you'd have the best luck in the NE...or Florida :p

More constructive than going to a church (if you're just interested in what Christianity is) would probably be to simply read one of the gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John). I know a lot of (non-Christian) people who have very legitimate complaints about the church but have never actually read a single thing Jesus said. It often surprises them-- I'm not saying it'll convert you or anything of the sort, but it can be interesting to contrast what's in the Bible to the church services you are attending.

I'd recommend John (geared toward evangelism/what the faith is about). Matthew & Luke have genealogies and stuff in them :p. Standard translation is the NIV (New International Version). You can find the whole thing online if you like: http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John%201&version=NIV

What about those fruit loop churches?

The ones that handle snakes or speak in tongues.
I bet that would be fairly entertaining.

I prefer the churches where they drink poison to show their unshakable faith. And I heard those churches have a hard time keeping members for very long, go figure. Koolaid anyone?

And I'm no fan of abusing innocent snakes just to get your rocks off for God. But snakes biting heathens can sure be entertaining, too!

I always choose my churches based on the friendly fliers left stuck to my door reminding me I'm going to Hell.
