We had one such prof in our ECE class who said that there would be 4 surprise quizzes during the entire quarter (to keep class attendance up). I used to be so bored in that class b/c I had taken that class in my Community College (university didnt give any credit for it :( ) but had to go every day b/c of those stupid surprise quizzes being ~20% of the final grade.

Luckily, most aren't like that. I've been averaging around 1-2hrs of class a week so far this year, and my marks are the same as they were when I went to more classes in the previous years.

This year I had only 1 really really interesting course with a great prof. The guy is a CIO at a company and had over 20 years industry experience and taught us some really valuable things. I actually looked forward to his classes!

You just hit the nail on the head why most profs suck and a lot of school is BS......a lot in acedemia have no real world experience. They spend their whole lives in theories with no worries of suffering the ill affects of bad decisions. Almost every good teacher I ever had came to teaching after already being successful in the real world. Not only were they better teachers from a style aspect they also had much more relevant material to teach. I enjoyed getting my MBA much more than my undergrad because most of the professors were of this type and listening to their lectures was actually enjoyable. There were of course your standard profs as well and those guys were boring as hell with nothing more than theory based teaching with the added political agenda claptrap, ie Microenonomics. Those classes were usually nap time.
