Hey Anandtechers,
I downloaded the Adobe Audition demo, because I really have a lot of fun recording stuff with my keyboard and microphone and such, and there has been a distinct difference between this and Cool Edit Pro.
Latency.
So I record based upon previous tracks to get the correct tempo and all that, and there is just enough latency to throw me off by a few hundreths of a second, which makes playback sound awful.
I had 2 options:
1. Every time I record, move the track so it fits in with all the other tracks by moving it a few hundreths of a second to the left so it lines up.
2. Figure out what the hell about my computer is causing latency on such a non-demanding program.
So I did some research, and it seems that Audition wants to take advantage of this newfangled ASIO (Audio-Stream Input/Output) drivers. Well, the only option I have to use is the default drivers, which are called "Audition Windows Sound" (apparently the psuedo driver/thing that comes with it if you don't have ASIO).
So whatever, I say, its all fine and dandy if I can just reduce the latency. So I go into the input section to reduce the latency like they tell me to around 32 or something like that, but it won't go below 512!! (your killing me smalls!). I figured this is because I'm not taking advantage of the ASIO, but I have clue how to get these drivers or whatever I need (because I'm still a complete newb).
Does anyone have any clue of what I'm talking about? You can see my rig in my sig, maybe point me in the right direction?
