Ok, it has been said a few times here that Vanilla Coke is no more than vanilla extract and regular coke. Looks like people making these claims have not tried it themselves.

I tried it today and it tastes absolutely icky:disgust:

Exactly.

A lot of people around here act as if they have their own soda fountain in their house.

They probably add a bit more sugar to take the bitterness of the vanilla extract away.

I used Mexican Vanilla extract. And don't put very much in at all.

Don't let your bf make it for you. He might put another secret ingredient in.

The true "Vanilla Coke", as my dad made back in the 60s:

1. Part soda water
2. Part Coke syrup
3. Part vanilla extract

That's the REAL vanilla coke -- go have one at your local diner.

Try vanilla syrup instead, the ones that they used at coffee shop.

"very much" is a very subjective term. Give me an absolute number. I had to add 5ml in 150ml of coke to get any vanilla taste to it. By the time I have vanilla flavor, the icky flavors follows along.

Tea spoon of Vanilla extract costs a quarter. Not very economical at all. I was using a store brand vanilla extract.

I don't mind letting him. He takes better care of me than any of you on the forums.

Tastes vanillaish to you or your roommie is no implication for "tastes undistinguishable from authentic Coca-Cola Vanilla Coke".

As I've found out, the art of flavor matching is not all about mixing logically sounding items together.

To be honest, I'm just trying to see how many people will dump vanilla extract in a bottle of perfectly good coke.

I should make a gullibility poll.

"Have you tried...?"
(X) Yes
( ) No

It's not vanilla extract probably vanilla syrup.

Buy some of that Torani syrup in the store or if you have a specialty coffee place near you see if you can get a bottle of the much better Monin syrup. Very good stuff.

my friend's roommate says he has done it successfully... and he wasn't just trying to be cool, because he was surprised when we told him coke now makes a vanilla coke.

What is your definition of "done it successfully"?

You didn't say whether he mixed it together to make a drinkable vanilla flavored coke or a drink that is indistinguishable from authentic Vanilla Coke.

Jerboy - all the vanilla extract I've seen has similar alcohol content to vodka (~80 proof).... think that is adding to the flavor? ;)

try letting it go a little flat also.
