ATTBI question...

I don't know if Nik is still on his sabatical but how many times can you split a digital signal line? I warned my dad that the maximum is 3... but he split it into 4... and 2 of that is split again... and now our connection cuts out on those two round 11AM - 3PM... unfortunately the cable modem is on one of them. Right know i took the splitter off on one of them and as expected the cable modem gets a signal again. What I don't get is a week before this there were no problems despite all those splitters... and there was no problems during the weekend... i don't know if ATT is cutting down on bandwidth... but it it were up to me i'd take off all the splitters. Do you guys think that Motorola Signal booster would help?

As long as you amplify before any of the splits it should help. I actually need to look into this since my picture quality has dropped dramatically within the last 2 months. I have mine split 3 ways.

no no no...you're doing it wrong. From the trunk line (line that comes into your house), split that....one to your cable modem and one to another splitter or distribution block. From the second splitter or block, split it as many times as you want. You're almost guaranteed a clean signal to your modem and not going to lose any "bandwidth".

Agreed. Tha's how I do it. I have one line straight to the modem with no breaks in it anywhere. The other line for the TV's is only split once with a 4 way splitter.

Well lately we've been having weak signals if a line is split at least twice... we get no TV at all... usually around 11AM-4PM... which sucks... i transferred my modem line but i guess i'll go do your suggestions tomorrow. THanks!

Splitting a line twice should have little to no difference. If you are losing the signal totally, you have bigger problems than that. Are you running R59 or RG6 cable?. Are all the connections secure? How long has this been going on?
My house was originally wired for cable. I have had 2 satellite systems since then and now back to cable. Each time I have run new RG6 cable. Right now, the cable comes to my house and is split there. I have one cable running straight to my modem and another cable goes into a 4 way splitter. From there it goes to 2 bedrooms, my diningroom and the livingroom where my home theater is set up. I have 3 machines on a network and I often hit 2.9 MBPS on the modem. The pic on the home theater is great on the digital channels. The analog channels are weak but very watchable. I do have a nice tv in my livingroom and use Avia to set it up but in my bedroom, where I have a cheap 27" tv, the pic is good and I never lose the signal. You have a problem somewhere along the line.
Have you had mice? Seriously, they'll eat on the cable.

Well no mice... ... but the problem only occurs on the lines that have splitters. I'll have a dedicated line for the modem tomorrow... it's all mixed up right now but its reassuring to know that you've split it like that and it's still ok. Problem is the ATT people that usually come always tell us to not split it so many times...

Mine is split to hell before it gets to my modem. once on the way in to a TV, then to a 5 way in the attic. The 5 way goes to this room, which has another splitter, one for the TV one for the modem.

Never gives me any problems.

Holy isht. :Q Well my setup was fine before this week... don't know if the rest of the block is suddenly sucking off the same node i am... now i gotta try isolating the line... hopeully the digital boxes can handle two splits.
