Well... sounds good until we know the price.... but he is the quote :

Fast Internet Just Got Faster!

Internet power users who have a need for more cable Internet speed now can subscribe to AT&T Broadband Internet 3.0 (also known as UltraLink),
a new level of AT&T Broadband Internet service.
The faster broadband Internet residential service has now been launched in the Washington Market.
The 3.0 Mbps service is a faster cable Internet speed that will be offered in addition to the company's current service.
The new tier will allow customers to surf at maximum speeds of up to 3 Mbps downstream and 384 Kbps upstream,
compared with the current service that allows customers to surf the Internet at speeds up to 1.5 Mbps downstream and 256 Kbps upstream
(speeds can vary from maximums based on a variety of factors).

Call 1-877-824-2288 for more information!

NOTE : I've also heard that they are devoloping new modems to track usage, so they can charge more depending on how much bandwidth you are useing. 🙁

DOH !! Had it backwards for sec there.... LOL 🙂

Not sure if this is new, at least not in the Bay Area - here is a report on how to get this done. DO NOT CALL THEM! Go through the web, I am telling you. At least you can check out pr0n whilst you are on hold or listen to mp3 instead of "Your call is important to us..."

dslreports.com - Attbi upgrade linky

when you think that you will be spending USD 1000/year for internet - shiver.

bleh.. cable companies make so much money.. this is just ridiculous.. my cable tv rate used to be $7.99 when I had it installed, now its over $35 for basic cable, that's all pure profit.. now they are abusing the internet service basically.. with @home I used to get 4 mbit and 800k upstream for less than I'm paying now, these cable companies must have lost their minds to think people are going to pay that much

Well, I think the cable companies are certainly overpricing themselves out of markets...don't get my wrong...however, they certainly aren't making tons of money..many are going out of business...with that said, however...ATT is monoplistic and sucks. I must have them because of the side of the building I live on, otherwise, I wouldn't give them a cent for TV or Internet access.

Wonder what the "fee" is.......

Back in the @home day, I had 3-7mb down, 128-384K up.......no extra charge.

Ahhh welll......

On August 1, 2002, AT&T Broadband will begin offering a new high-speed cable Internet service called UltraLink. This new service is not available in all areas. With maximum download speeds capped at 3.0 Mbps and maximum upload speeds capped at 384 kbps*, UltraLink is suited for sending large files or emails, maximizing the performance of multiple networked home computers, multimedia content and large downloads. While the price may vary in different areas, UltraLink generally will be offered at $79.99 per month if you own your cable modem or $82.99 per month if you lease a cable modem.

*Actual speeds will vary. Factors that affect the speeds include: customer's computer performance and configuration; accessing non-cached or cached data; performance characteristics of each component of the data network; the number of users and overall traffic on the Internet and the data network and all users' compliance with the Acceptable Use Policy.

Too expensive for me

Unless you're downloading pr0n, warez, MP3's or running a server I'm perfectly happy @ 1.5

I pay $80 per month as it is for DSL and it's only at 640k, $25 for regular landline phone service, $30 for the DSL line and $25 for my DSL ISP 🙁

Sucks to have At&T it seems. I have OptimumOnline and i get between 3-5Mbits download and 1Mbit up. I do have to pay 49.95 a month but its ok for what i get.

Well, you do not live in the Silicon Valley then. Here things are more expensive because people are more beautiful and it never rains during summer. . .

Can i move in at your place? 🙂

Not really. OptimumOnline is way better than any other cable service in the country, so anything would seem to suck if you have it 🙂 Actually, 1.5/256 isn't bad.

Before I got Comcast I was paying $80/mo. for a 128K ISDN line.

Now with WideOpenWest I'm getting cable 1.5/256 for $35/mo.

Back with @home i had a constant 4.5megs down and 1.0-1.5 up for only $35.95 a month! now i am paying 47.95 for the 1.5 down and 256K up. this $79.00 is freaking crazy though i would have paid $15.00 max for the extra, but i will just pass!

WOW some of the prices you guys have to pay! I live in Cincinnati, OH and I pay $36.95/mo UC rate for Time Warner Road Runner. 2mbit down / 384 up....plus I share with the roomies...comes to like $8 each a month after tax! 🙂

hope their backbones can handle more ppl getting fast speeds, coz it's gonna get sluggish if they don't.
as for me.. i'm waiting for the 512k/128k for $29 plan... this was in the newspapers back in july i dont' really need that fast but 512/128 is good enough for me... hope they still have that plan in mind and push it out soon.
