Giant Hogweed has taken over a 10km stretch of riverside land just north of us.

Giant hogweed, an invasive species that can cause serious burns, even blindness, has gone hog wild along a 10-kilometre stretch of the Thames River northeast of London with thousands of plants lining the riverside.

With a single plant producing as many as 120,000 seeds, there is deepening concern river flooding will sweep the dangerous weed downstream into St. Marys and eventually into London.

“There is an incredible infestation,” said Brandon Williamson, a land management technician with the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority.

The hogweed plants have taken root on the river banks from about one concession south of Mitchell down to one or two concessions north of St. Marys, Williamson said.

There are also unconfirmed reports giant hogweed is growing along the Thames River between St. Marys and London, he said.

A small patch was discovered and eradicated in a London section of the Thames River between Highbury Ave. and Adelaide St.

I saw this shit growing near my old house back in 2001. I didn't know what is was. I didn't go near it either.

WTF is a "concession" as a unit of distance measurement?

They need to work to eradicate the stuff... Put on protective suits and start ripping the stuff out.

Those plants freak me out just by how they look. Very tall and just freaky looking. I don't even care about the burning. We have reports of some in my area, but haven't seen one in person yet.
