ATT Worldnet Software

Here's something a little different.

Couple of months ago I upgraded my ATT Worldnet Software to their latest Version, I believe it's 4.02 or something.

I started experiencing SIGNIFICANT problems, such as the the WINServer no longer responding?, I'd stay connected but things would slow down and then I'd freeze, or the "dialer" would corrupt the infamous "kernel".

Now I had upgraded my browser to 5.5 about the same time, so I wasn't sure what was causing the problem.

I reinstalled Windows last nite and things "seemed" fine. But I was on Worldnet for over an hour and lo and behold...same problem. The funny thing about is that the sytem either TOTALLY freezes or, I can exit from the ISP, but I can't shut down because an unnamed app "is not responding". I have to cold boot by shutting the system off. Which does wonders for my harddrive.

Anyone aware of any problems with the ATT software. My system at present has ONLY the operating system, Worldnet and WinZip loaded at the present time. I don't want to reload anything else until I can get this resolved.

My rig is:
FIC 503+ w/450 AMD K6-3...yes K6-3
128 MB RAM
Voodoo 3 (latest drivers)
Aureal SQ-2500 Vortex 2
3-Com US Robotics 56K VoiceModem (NOT a winmodem)
Latest Via AGP Patch

Thanks.

It sounds like a memory leak in their software to me - especially the kernel error and things slowing down with time. I'm not familiar with Worldnet at all - do you need their software to login? Can you just put in the settings manually? What if you want to use another OS (like Linux) with WorldNet?

i got att also.. but i just put the settings into the windows DUN.. remember that the login name isn't your email rather its a long string of numbers and stuff... you can find it in
x:\program files\att\accounts\account.txt

i did an experiment using AT&T's program and the windows DUN and i got about 4kbps faster on average using the DUN..
you're milage may vary

also i had trouble for a few days connecting and they told me to put the DNS server's IP in the DUN rather than have it hunt it down all buy itself.. i can't remember the #s off the top of my head, but it wouldn't hurt if you can find them

have fun, and happy browsing B-)

I have all the ATT Account Info.

At the risk of sounding a little dense (I know the answer is gonna seem VERY simple, once you tell me), but how do I go about entering the info into DUN.

Do I go through the modem settings? Control Panel?

Thanks again.

The latest Worldnet (for Windows) version: 6.1. Or you can optionally enter the DNS information for use with Linux, BeOS, etc. Also use a registry cleaner/fixer utility, such as Iolo System Mechanic, MS Regclean, and/or Ontrack System Suite. Even a clean install of Windows leaves many registry errors to clean up after.
Use www.updates.com to check for some updates, which may not show up at the MS update site.
Edit: The two Worldnet DNS servers to enter in DUN are: 204.127.129.1 & 204.127.160.1
Start/Settings/Network & Dialup Connections/Make New Connection.
