Monitor 1: Viewsonic VX2025WM 1680x1050 20.1in WideScreen
Monitor 2: NEC LCD1715 1280x1024 17in
ATi Tray Tools v1.2.6.955
Windows XP Pro

system exactly as in signature

i got both monitors to turn on right after plugging my second monitor (NEC) into my x1900xt
now i have 2 x of the same desktop @ 1280x1024, my 20.1in widescreen is stretched out to this resolution. how can i get it so that i have only 1 desktop stretched across both monitors?
can i do this with ATT? or must i install CCC?

thanks all

Is that something that can be achieved by Windows itself? If you right-click the desktop, then Properties, then Settings... isn't there an option where you can check a box to "extend desktop to this monitor"? My comptuer at work doesn't allow this so I can't find the exact steps to do it, but I was doing it just yesterday with a 42" and a 19" WS just for grins. I was dragging open windows from one screen to the other... is that kinda what you're after?

edit: my vid card is similar to yours, X1900XTX... just running stock CCC 6.11 for what its worth. Did not have to touch it at all to get both screens connected as one desktop.

yes, thats exactly what i want, to be able to drag windows from one monitor to the other as if it were one big widescreen

i found the "extend the desktop to this monitor" box, clicked it, but now both of my monitors are at 1280x1024, my 20.1in seems all stretched out, is there a way i can run the Widescreen monitor at 1680x1050 (native) and the second monitor at 1280x1024 (native)

I think so... if I remember right, in that Settings panel, there is a drop-down where you can select which monitor's settings you want to adjust. Select the appropriate monitor and try changing the resolution, then hit "Apply". Also, when you see the two monitors graphically represented in that window, you can drag them around and "arrange" them according to how you want them to line up.

I sure wish I was home so I could give you better directions, but I think if you fiddle around a little bit, you should end up making it all work.

ATT has all the options you need (& it seems you figured it out :))

Sadly, ATT does NOT have an option for rotating the secondary display into portrait mode (at least last time i tried), so i have to use CCC.

AFAIK, only what i just mentioned, or i'd likely be using ATT myself.

Can someone explain what CCC is? And, is "ATT" a typo error? Is that supposed to be ATI?

ccc= catalyst control center
ATT= ati tray tools
ati = ati

on another note, how can i stretch one widescreen wallpaper across 2 monitors?

I use a nVidia GeForce4 Ti4200, with two monitors attached. To stretch one widescreen wallpaper across 2 monitors, I need to open Display Properties, select Settings, select Advanced, select the display adapter, and change the nView Display Mode from Dualview to Horizontal Span.

Perhaps a similar approach works with ATI; I really don't know.

Ultramon

I use it for that feature as well as the fact it adds a second taskbar over my secondary display.

Seriously worth it to me for those features alone.
