Different signals. TV comes in on one band, internet the other.

I'm pretty much fucking sold right now, cable can eat it until they figure out how to increase the bandwidth on their lines and stop messing with my account every other month

After trying to get U-verse I would say no fucking way.

My credit isn't the greatest. I fucked up things a few years ago but am back on track now. Brow beat me later on how I am a dumbass.

AT&T flat out REFUSED to let me get service, no extra deposit, no pay in advance, nothing. I ended up having to back out of a reserved apartment because they were the only choice for cable, internet and phone service.
Not to mention that at that time I had an AT&T DSL line in my name at the place I was living.

Also unless you get their FIOS type service the channels are horribly compressed and you will often get artifacts because of it.

So in short. Fuck AT&T.

I switched from Optimum Online to UVerse about a month ago. Switching over TV, Internet and phone saved me near $100 over what I was paying before.

Pros:
- Very reliable. Not down a second.
- TV picture quality is very good, better than OOL was.
- More channels.
- A lot $$$$$ less.

Cons:
- About half as fast as OOL was at top speed. As OOL was so blisteringly fast I rarely got anywhere near max speed due to slowdowns in other parts of the hops, so I don't notice this too much.
- No binary newsgroups. That ticked me off for a while, but torrents fill in the gap, so that doesn't bother me any more.
- DNS servers SUCK. I was forced to use OpenDNS to keep from going crazy.
- Channel lineup is really screwy. They're spread out over way too wide a number range and are not grouped as well as they should be.

Overall pleased. The pluses outweigh the minuses and the minuses are pretty easy to work around. Hell, if your current cable company isn't superfast you might get a speed increase.

I am interested in Uverse - Dish network is raping me - also mainly because it seems to be the most affordable way to put HD in more that one room (four I think)

Anyway to determine when/how they roll out service? Neighborhood next to mine has had it for about 6 months - and I don't get any straight answers when I call them.

I hate AT&T but think I'd go for it if it became available in my neighborhood. Right now I only have Charter Cable for high speed internet and HD TV and they pretty much suck.

I expense my internet cost also, so even if it cost a bit more, it wouldn't be much of an issue.

A typical U-Verse VDSL connection maxes at 57Mbps (using one pair, with pair bonding probably available later this year), with a cap @ the DSLAM of ~25Mbps. The profile for Internet access can further be reduced to the 1.5, 3, 6, 10, or 10Mbps. There is an 18Mbps offering that will use all available unused bandwidth; not necessarily a good deal if all four video streams are up (HD~7.5Mbps per stream, SD ~ 3Mbps per stream).

I tried it. Saved a little cash. But the TV would cut out regularly, I had one of the set top boxes crap out on me and I had to jump through too many hoops to get it replaced. In the end, there were too many annoyances so I ditched it.

I have 18mbps uverse with 2 HD tv's and phone. We record tv non stop and only watch HD programing. So far everything works great. They ran all new lines to the house and inside the house ran cat5. They also setup wireless for my notebook (which I later turned off and setup my own). I have had the service for 2 months without a single day of downtime on the phone, tv, or internet.

The only problem I have had is with their customer service. I am a avid watcher of MMA fights. We have parties at my house nearly every weekend to watch fights. In Jan. we rented a UFC (which did not have HD for some reason), then the Affliction show and finally tried to rent the last UFC (BJ Penn vs GSP). Only it would not let me rent the fight, saying I had reached my monthly spending limit. It gave a number to call. I called that number and was on hold for 45 minutes. At that point I called Technical support. After 3 tries to get thought he computer system without getting hung up on I finally reached a lady. She told me the other number I was calling was a sales number and only open monday-friday 8-5. I was then placed on hold for 30 minutes while she tried to help me. Eventually she had me reboot my box (which had no effect). Then had me reboot the box again (with no effect) and finally told me I would need to call this number to solve my problem. The number she gave me was the same number she just told me was only open monday-friday. This being a live event on a saturday made her advice no help. At this point I decided to hang up and try again.

45 minutes later I reached another support tech. 72 minutes later he was able to turn on the rental for me and we finaly were able to watch the UFC 30 minutes after it had started. If I have this problem next month I will be keeping the internet and canceling their tv service.

i can't get it either. i'm not sure why concord, ca can get it while oakland doesn't get it. maybe cause it's so ghetto. whatever, anyway, i'm currently with comcast. their customer service is the absolute worst i've ever experienced, so i'm sure att can't be much worse. and their prices seem better for what you get, so when it's available for me, i'll definitely be signing up.

So, once it is available and installed, there are no cons?

I have the same setup and the same complaint about their customer service. The UVerse service itself is great and I've only had one real problem with it. I hope it's the only one because I don't think I could handle talking to their support folks ever again.

The $$ they have to lay out per customer to provide service is several orders of magnitude more than DSL or cable, it's perfectly understandable (to me) that they refuse service to people with less-than-perfect credit.

I've been looking into AT&T Uverse myself and ditching TW/RR... The price ends up to be about the same, but the quality of the TV interface is better, picture quality is better and Inet speed is better (you can get up to 18Mbps through their service now... I'm looking at 10Mbps)

Ive heard rumors though that your Inet will slow down (sometimes considerably) when you are viewing multiple HD streams. While not a deal breaker, that would stink.

I wasn't asking for a new cable run, in which case I would tend to agree with you.
The apartment complex I was wanting to move in to was pre-wired for service. All they would of had to of done was come out and turn it on. No different than DSL or regular cable.
And as I had said before, it was the only choice I had for cable, internet and phone service.

In the end it worked out better for me, I found another place that was larger for less money and closer to work, but it completely changed my attitude on AT&T.

We have U-Verse. Had the TV and Internet combo installed together last June. I just wanted the Internet portion (faster upstream than DSL, for Slingbox), but they wouldn't allow that. So took free installation and free month of TV service, got $250 back. Then removed video portion when I had the checks in hand.

Internet has been very reliable, but then again so was AT&T DSL. Picture quality while we had it on SD looked better than DirecTV in side by side (didnt have HD TV hooked up). Downside (and major reason we didn't go forward with it) is only 2 HD streams...we currently can watch/record up to 4 streams (2 HD DirecTiVos), and total of 6 things counting the standard.

I've had Uverse for almost one year.

I dont have a HDTV so i cant comment on that.

Pro
The Uverse bundled service is cheaper than Dish & Time Warner Cable Internet.
Install was easy, dropped new lines for three boxes, no issues, took about 4 hours.
SD Content crisp and clear on a CRT television
Internt is as fast or faster than Time Warner cable.

Con
Twice the service has gone out for 12+ hours! no TV, no Internet and no DVR CONTENT, (ATT trucks were all over the place so i'm guessing new lines being dropped?)
The menu system for Television is lacking compared to the Dish Network Menu system, the remote i have must be pointed almost straight at the Box for it to work.

Aside from the annoyances i would say that overall i'm happy with the service and would recommend it to others.

had it for about 4 months now. no problems. have HD, 2 receivers, internet, phone. saved 15/mo, and a 200 rebate. so far ordering programs has worked fine, no service cutouts at all.

internet is not blazing, but i get along.

our install only took 2 hours
