ATT Tilt and wifi

I was thinking about getting an ATT Tilt, but right now I don't want to get a data plan from ATT.

I was wondering, if I don't get a data plan, can I do things like email, internet, and IM over the wifi connection? Or are there limitations where these things *have* to go through a data network from ATT?

Thanks for any info you can provide! I just don't want to get caught on an oversight.

Yes, you can do those things thru wifi. look carefuly at the IM client you want to use, though. Some use data and some use text. You may also want to delete the cellular data settings so you dont accidently have your phone pull email while not connected to wifi. Also, if you are buying it new w/ a contract, you may be required to get a data plan to be eligible for the promo price.

Thanks for the reply! I was actually able to get a refurb one for a great deal with a contract extension, and I didn't have to get a data plan. I'll keep an eye on the IM and delete the data settings like you said.
