Ok i called att@home cause i wanted to get this kick ass modem that ACTUALLY does uncap (a friend from the interenet has it) and they support said "its not supported" now ive heard that just because they arent "supported" doesnt mean you cant use em... Does anyone have any comments on this i dont wanna risk buying it unless im sure it works
what should i do its an auction so i cant return it

So will it work? people with @home that have done this feedback would be great too
Dont give me crap about the program now workin ok...
thanks

Is it a DOCSIS modem? It won't work.

Is it an older modem (i.e. LanCity)? You can install it and someone, somewhere down the line will notice and most likely cut you off for theft of service.

um... I don't exactly know what "kick ass dem" you're talking about, but I just used this proggie called Quest@home and it supposedly uncaps the @home cable modem. I was like d/ling from this server on this program called Hotline, and I was getting like 15K/s. Dang it, that's freakin slow for a T3 server. So I d/l the Quest@home, installed, and my downloads went up to like 200K/s (and there were a lot more users on the server than usual) Uploads didn't change speed though.

Quest@home doesn't uncap anything, it modifies an RWIN value and sets it to something insane. With it on I would notice occasional speedups but there were blue screens in MSTCP all over the place.

Cablenut <-- good stuff

If it's a DOCSIS modem, they cann't be uncapped. Their provision values are set at the Cable Headend. If it's an older modem, such as the LANcity or old non-DOCSIS Terayon, those require special proprietary equiptment to be installed in the Cable Headend, which most providers do not have. You cannot hook up a LANcity if they're not running an LCE... and you cannot connect a Terayon if there's no Teralink.

If your provider "just" got into the game within the last year or two, chances are they don't have either piece of equiptment.
