All of the weapons upgrades that become available. Planes and tanks get enhanced, lasers and flashlights, nicer rifles. Etc..

Imagine trying to start playing BF3 six months from now.
I don't see how this is an issue. Picking up an online multiplayer fps quite a while after release will always gimp that person, but not because of the upgrades. Knowing the maps, movement, tactics and overall "feel" of the game is what makes people better. Unlocks add certain conveniences and some help, but certainly not as much as you think.

Yeah exactly, the unlocks help but they arent that big of a deal. Map awareness is huge, the reason i get killed 90% of the time is i didnt see the guy who shot me, i didnt see him because im not sure where the front line is or where the combat is happening. Learning the maps is massive.

I almost picked this up a few days ago when I read a post that reminded me of BC2. "Team Killing to get the jets and helicoptors is just ridiculous" and I remembered that out of the 4-6 hours I played of BC2, that is exactly what would happen. People would line up for the copter or the jet and kill each other if someone took it. What a horrible system. Even if you don't have TKing going on for the jets/copters and have a 'line' of civil people, there is still the problem of "Who is fighting on the front lines to keep us from losing?" Oh, no one cares, they just want to fly the jet. And hey, the jets and copter are fun, but I don't quite see how this game won't be a repeat of what I have seen in BC2 on the dozen or so server I tried.

Am I wrong? Is this not accurate of BF3? I'd be happy if I was wrong because I'd really like to play BF3. But I have my reservations and for $60 bucks, I can't take a gamble.

Hey everyone. Would you add my name to the Origin list? Origin account is Zakhail.

Had a blast playing with Zero Cool, Demo24, Nizen, and a bunch of other guys last night. Looking forward to some more fights!

ArchAngel, you can now select to spawn in some of the vehicles before your feet are on the ground. Keeps people from shooting the planes while you run towards it.

I agree. I am a decent shooter, reflex (at least, I used to be), etc... But I got owned in BC2 frequently. The main reason is that I don't know the maps, where people are shooting from, the basic 'feel' of the game. There is no doubt that the majority of the reason I get owned is because I simply don't know the maps and typical choke points in the game. I don't think the unlocked weapons make too large of a difference. Although I hear the 12x scope was probably a big advantage. I'd get sniped pretty far away... Anyway, I am a noob, no doubt about it and all the unlocks in the world wouldn't save me from getting owned.

Wow, this may have changed my mind... Appreciate the information. Maybe I will pick it up.

While I suck in general some of the unlocks especially in the aim assist area help out immensely as do the scopes, RoF increases and the like ;)

Overall I'm enjoying this game immensely, just felt like bitching ;)

That said the "stock weapons" sometimes feel like BB guns while I can't count the number of times a MK416 has wiped me out with accurate fire.

I remember that being the case wit BF1942, BF:V, and BF2 but it is surprisingly not the case with BF3. I guess the infantry combat is interesting enough and flying the jets or chopper is too suicidal unless you know what you are doing. Most of the time I see both jets just sitting on the runway.

What is the Clan Tag [????] for new members of the AnandTech platoon? Are new members able to use the tag? And what are the rules and progression to using one? (Do we have to have a minimum skill level or playing time...etc?)

Not really a clan tag, most of us just use it to help identify we are part of AT. Started back in BC2. Anyone from here is free to use it on their character. [ATOT], or [AT]

Most of us are running with [ATOT]. No one "owns" that tag (as I was instructed when I asked the same question during the BC2 days), so feel free to use it whenever you want. We're not competiting with it...perhaps if we were there would be minimum requirements to use it. We just use it to identify each other - keeps us honest (and friendly).

Speaking of this, I wish there was a way to have your tags automatically change depending on what server your on. I like to use the ATOT tag when on the AT server, otherwise I use my normal tag.

trouble is with conquest maps, there isn't really a front like there is in rush. The copters help people leap frog. It's too boring for people to defend a back flag for the one or two guys that'll come by to cap it. So you end up with back flags lost and then 1/3 of the enemy team spawning at it. I think it would be good to have more flags but have them in sequence, so only 3 at a time is available to be capped, that would give 3 fixed fronts.

Some of the starter guns I think are very good, like the support kit RPK, or the MK 11, but all of these guns get much better with some sort of sight or scope.

Does anyone feel like the PP-2000 got toned down in damage? I was rockin' house with that gun in beta, seems like it's significantly weaker now.

The PP-2000 does feel like a pea shooter now. I gave up on it pretty quick, though maybe I only liked it in the beta because of Operation Metro. I feel somewhat the same way about the DAO-12 but again, might just have been the map in the beta promoting CQC.

Some starter guns are great, the unlockable guns are alternative moreso than upgrades. With that said, sometimes the alternative is much easier to use and therefore naturally more popular.
