itd be cool if there were some way to sort the listed systems by different criteria, like processor or vid card.

Best system I can think of is an Athlon 64 Fx-53 overclocked at 2.9Ghz, and now guess who owns this beauty????? Tom, from Tomshardware.com

For gaming you really cant even compete unless you have an X800XT or a GeForce 6800GT or Ultra. The X800pros just cant really put up the numbers of the other cards, so even that x800pro Im sure would put you under top 50.

Mine doesn't rank here but IRL I have the best system out of all the gamers/programmers I know. I get bragging rights where it counts - face to face. 😀

I agree.

Caz67.... your system would be one of the top 50, but your HDD interface is kinda slow. To be in the top 50 youll get laughed at unless you SCSI, and some exotic cooling and stuff.

YOur system with a bit of tweaking could easily make it.

I think my current rig will be in top 100 000...

P4 3,4Ghz (HT)
2 Gb DDR400 ECC
2x 18Gb 10k U160 SCSI RAID 0 (boot)
2x 120Gb 7200rpm/8Mb RAID 1 (storage)
GF FX 5900Ultra 256Mb VIVO

Nowhere near the top though...

In Laptop competition my Thinkpad T41p would fare better 🙂

Well you have a decent processor. Is it OCed at all.

You have a good amount of memory but its ECC so its gonna have a bit looser timing and a bit higher latencys.

You do have SCSI which puts you ahead of us puny IDE and SATA users, but to make it into the top 50 i would think you would have to have U320SCSI and have like 5 drives in like RAID 5.

Your video card is nice but honestly to make it into the top slots :-\ you gonna need a 6800U or GT or XTPE.

You could probably have made it close last year.

No doubt though your system is a screamer. 🙂

I have a profressor friend who has a pretty good system. It's dual opteron's, 4gb of RAM, 2 raptors in raid 0. I was making fun of him because all he runs is fedora.

Check out my system..

Runs like a dream........................................................................
.................................................zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

3dMark03 - 14000ish

I like the systems up for server rentals for Unreal 2004.

The two common trends:
1. they are almost always dual, either xeon or opterons
2. they all use scsi, different pin types

Ok I'll bite. 🙂

SuperMicro X6DAE-G2
(2) Intel Xeon 3.6GHz
4GB PC3200 ECC DDR2
ATi x800xt on 16x PCI-E
Creamware Luna II PCI Audio on 32/33 PCI
Audigy 2NX on USB 2.0 for games
Intel SRCU42X U320 SCSI RAID on 133MHz PCI-X This HBA has 512MB ECC DDR Cache and Li Ion Backup Battery System onboard
(8) 73.1GB Fujitsu MAS 15k disks configured with multiple logical drives
Logitech MX1000 Mouse
MS Desktop Elite 2.0 Keyboard with wireless mouse on PS/2 port for RAID console access
Samsung 243T 24" TFT 1920x1200 display
Toshiba SDM-1612 with customised firmware for true 16x DVD ripping
NEC ND-3500-AG DVD-RW drive mounted externally connected via 1394
Mitsumi 7in1 floppy/card reader combo

Verious case modifications for quiet (sub 30dBA) operation at the desktop.
Lian Li PC70 case (highly modified)
SuperMicro 650W ATX-EPS triple redundant power supply (modified to reduce fan noise - about as loud as a woman screaming for a taxi in Manhattan!)

I also have other things I use such as notebooks and a pocket PC that are worthy of mention, but I'll leave those for another discussion.

I was going to get a dual Opteron platform BUT a client liked it better than me (always works that way) and I got a killer deal on the Xeons.

Cheers!

Ding ! I think we have a winner ! If I upgraded my SCSI and video card I could be right there, but I haven;t seen anything to beat this yet.

Dear god... that is most definately in the top 50. Hell that is probably fast enouh to be in top 20. Are those Nocona Xeons? If so they compete much more with the opterons that the old Xeons.

What are you pulling down in 3dmark just out of curiosity.

I think well be hard pressed to find a system better than that until much later.

Wow Sharkeeper, that is truly an amazing system. Next 3D animation job I get, though, I'll be flying high up there, too (but probably with a nVIDIA Quadro card). I'm kind of waiting around for SLI and multicore processors, though - nothing my job loves more than parallelism...

I have (NEAR) top of the line sound card if anything... that, assuming no one has a modded Hammerfall 🙂
