Why has no one nominated Legend of Zelda?? I've never actually played it but that HAS to be on any serious list of top 100 games.

Also, games like Contra, Sonic the Hedgehog, the original GTA, Dune, Sim City, Metroid, Mortal Kombat, and I'm sure others I'm forgetting, should be on the list.

To the EyeMWing: You might want to consider adding some games despite them not being nominated, otherwise we might have another IGN fiasco on our hands.

Empire Earth <-- My favorite RTS since TA:CC
Lode Runner <-- anyone else remember playing it on teh Apple IIe
Postal 2 <-- Just so damn funny

Also, all my other favorites were already nominated.

Super Mario Kart SNES > *

#1. Super Mario Kart on SNES is by FAR the best game of all time. There really is a level of "eliteness" that you will reach once you master this game. There is a distinct seperation between the men and the boys. The gameplay and skill needed to master the tracks are unmatched in games now a days. I'm not talkin bout battle mode, or match race, I'm talkin about 150cc races with you, another player, and 6 AI opponents. Knowing the AI' s patterns, their gameplay strategies, and a bunch of other crap make this game so much fun, that the best truly stick out.

#2. Street Fighter 2 Turbo Edition - I cannot believe that SF3 is on the list but not SF2, some of you fighters just really disappoint me. SF2 was the first ground breaking 1 on 1 fighting game that took off. It is the basis of every fighting game out there. The characters and variety of players in the game were just outstanding, especially for its time. And if you think you are good at that game, go on XBox live and challenge some people. There truly are some GREAT people that play on there, probably as good as people in the national SF tournaments. Back in SF2 there were no super movies, no "combos" per se, and it was just all out skill based with a bunch of mind games going on while playing this game. For one to truly be elite in SF2, you must know your opponents next move as much as your own if you want to come out on top.

#3. Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past - Again, I cannot believe that the N64 versions of Zelda are on the list, but the SNES ones aren't. Sure, the ones on N64 were AWESOME and probably the best games on SNES, but nothing compares to the enjoyment I got out of the SNES version. To this day I could sit down and play that game over and over and over.

Mario 64 is VERY close to making this list as well. my #2 and #3 are interchangeable arguable, but Super Mario Kart SNES is definitely the greatest video game ever.

StarCraft (w/ Brood War Expansion) - this is the definitive real-time strategy game, the best ever made. No one, not even Blizzard themselves, have made one to surpass it since its release. You could be endlessly occupied figuring out every strategy and counter-strategy, every possible build order, every little micro-management technique. Even with its dated graphics, its still fun to go back and play today. It was also completely playable on a 56k modem and with a wide range of hardware - something game manufacturers just don't bother with anymore - and included a complete map editor (which added to replayability)

Max Payne - the first FPS in existence which realisticly and effectively integrates bullet-time into gameplay - and actually has a decent storyline to boot.

I can't think of anything else (which hasn't already been nominated) that deserves a shot at best game ever, so only two nominations from me.

Umm ... max payne was not an FPS ... its a 3rd person game.

Oh, alright, get technical on me. 😛 But yeah, you're right.

Oh, and btw. I highly, highly doubt any kind of FuseTalk poll will be successful or generate meaningful results.

Yes, that's why I'm seriously leaning towards one of the other two options. I have no intentions of actually spending 72 hours making a fusetalk poll 😛

This is going to be interesting to say the least. When this poll happens, it'll be interesting to see the results.
