Ah - the weekly moves limit must only be a H2H option.Between 50 and 70 is a good moves limit to prevent churning.

I made 46 moves in my most active league last year due to a bunch of injuries - ortiz, soriano, byrnes. the most for the league was 90 so lets put a max on 60 moves for the year - unless anyone objects.

Update:

Live online draft will be this Saturday at 5pm EST. Still looking for about 2 more people so please send me a PM with your email address if you are interested.

I think the most moves in my own league last year was 90+. I don't really care if there is a cap or not but it was brought up and I capped it at 60. If you guys want to up it some more then I don't care.

No chance to make it H2H?

I've only ever done NFL leagues but I think H2H will be better.

I don't think H2H works well with baseball. In football it works better because everyone plays that same week. With H2H in baseball your best players can miss a matchup, etc.

I feel the opposite in regards to roto, h2h in baseball and football.
In football, you have one game for the whole week where you can get royally screwed.

In baseball you get 4 to 6 games from your hitters and although the schedules do not typically match up, they average out in the end.

Ok, I just sent out a mass PM to everyone who has responded to this thread. From the looks of it we will be playing for money. If anyone would like to be the league treasurer and hold onto the money until the season is over that would be great. If not, then I can do it but I would require $11 to be sent to cover the fees since I don't have that paypal account that doesnt charge fees.

Also, if you could. If you have signed up and are planning on playing can you post your AT name along with your Yahoo team name here so I can post it in the 1st post. Also, when you do send your money please write a note of your team name and AT name so it makes it easier to keep track of who paid.

are there instructions for how the league works once you sign up? I have a general idea, but have never done one of these before.

this is a good guide

edit: One major tip - if the league is ROTO.

You have to remember that each position is allotted a select number of games.
I didn't know this in my first year and got screwed.

There's a link at the bottom left that will tell you how many games have been played per position and what the projected total games will be (+ or -).

So basically, in roto you have to really look at the matchups - especially with the starting pitchers.

well yahoo explained it (roto) as you get x points for each stat category depending on the ranking.

So if there are 10 teams, the team with the most HR's gets 10 points....is that per week or for the whole season?

Also, do you get penalized for anything? Like (offense) strikeouts, errors, etc?

Yep, thats correct. You get cumulative points for each category for the entire season. Whoever has the most HRs get 10 points, 2nd most 9 points etc etc.

There are no negative scoring for errors and whatnot. The league is based on 10 stat categories that are listed in the first post of this thread.

hmmm, ok I guess that makes sense.

And you can change your roster at anytime (subbing in bench players/pitchers)?

Yep, you can make daily changes. The only thing is the roster has to be set prior to the first pitch of that day. So if you are debating about starting between 2 OFs you would need to make the decision before the game starts.

Also, if a player is not starting that day (real life) and he is in your starting lineup you would not be charged a game played. However, if that player goes into the game as a pinch hitter then you would be charged.

I still request that we add more roster slots. At least a CI/MI and some more pitchers?

Sorry, I don't think that is going to happen unless I get a lot of people with that request. Adding more slots is just too much as a bunch of people that are in the league are 1st timers. I'm trying to keep it simple so that everyone has a good time playing.

I have played with these settings for the past 8 years and it has worked out fine every year - I'd prefer to keep it this way as its pretty much the Yahoo default settings.

I'm willing to play. Should be free money for the rest of you folks as I've never played fantasy baseball before.

Hmmm, 2:00PM on Saturday kind of sucks. I guess I can try to make that.

Alright - fair enough. How about just one extra OF slot? I just want it to be a bit deeper, is all.

I'm sure you want it deeper 😉

Well, there are 24 roster spots so thats pretty deep to begin with. If anything I would add another utility spot but I think drafting 24 players is more then enough.
