Here’s “WEEK 6” of the challenges. It’s more like “Round 6”, but I’m going to keep it saying “WEEK”
History / Previous Contests
Rounds 1, 2, and 3 were in the original thread
Round 4 is located here
Round 5 is located here
Note that the Engineering Category and the Creative Category are two independent competitions. Submit one or more designs to each.
Each entry will be totaled separately, so if you submit two designs to a single contest, they will be competing against each other.
Week 6 Engineering Category – Water Transport (Presented by YOyoYOhowsDAjello)
Materials:
Water
Any building materials except:
- A pre-made pump (make your own DIY pump if you want, but no buying one)
- An electrical source of power (Batteries, wall outlet, etc.)
Goal:
Build a contraption that transports water from point A to point B.
Rules:
- No using a pre-made pump, no using electrical power.
- Water can be held in a container and transported, or delivered on its own somehow.
- Point B must be pre-determined and indicated as the “target” (You must show some degree of accuracy in your water delivery... show us where it's going to end up, and then use the final resting spot of the water for points calculation)
- You may have 1 interaction with your device to “start it”. This action cannot be physically pushing or propelling the water with your own force. (You could release a slingshot, but you cannot physically push a container of water toward the destination with your arm)
- Water must be contained at Point B somehow (either by a container placed there before the device is activated… or your water container must stop at or near Point B)
- After the water reaches Point B, you must measure the water rounding down to the nearest cup for points calculation.
- The contraption you construct can be anywhere in relation to Point A and B. It does not have to move with the water (but it can).
Points Calculation:
Points = (Horizontal Distance in Feet * Vertical Distance in Inches * Cups of Water to Reach B)
For example:
5 Feet Horizontal * 6 Inches Vertical * 3 Cups of Water = 90 Points
3 Feet Horizontal * 12 Inches Vertical * 10 Cups of Water = 360 Points
Note:
Vertical distance is measured from the top water line at Point A to the bottom of the water at Point B
EDIT: You must go higher than the original water line to score points. Distance up is considered positive and distance down is considered negative.
Horizontal distance is the shortest horizontal distance between water at the starting and ending points.
To submit:
You must provide A Video of your Contraption’s Run.
You must provide measurements of distances traveled, and cups of water transported (Photographic evidence is preferred)
You must provide a point total calculation showing your work.
How will a winner be determined?
If there are 10 or less participants, I will make a new thread where we can vote on the winner with a vbulletin poll. If there are more than 10 participants, the new thread will not include a poll, and voters will just vote by "write-in" for the submitters.
Week 6 Creative Category – Water Creations (Presented by YOyoYOhowsDAjello)
Materials:
Whatever you want
(This could be a sculpture, a poem, a digital photo, a Microsoft Paint drawing, whatever… as long as it has to do with water)
Goal:
Make something creative having to do with water
Rules:
You must be the creator of this entry
To submit:
Post your creation somehow

Timeline for both competitions:
Start time: Tuesday 3pm March 9th, 2010 (Central Time)
Polls will be posted: Sunday March 21st, 2010 (some time during the day... submit your entry by noon central time)
Winners will be declared: 48 hours after the poll opens
POLLS:
Engineering Poll<-- Canceled due to lack of participation
Creative Poll
Other information:
What do I win?
You mean recognition and pride from this isn't enough? Maybe I'll think of something better, but I'll plan on sending out an "official ATOT challenge winner" certificate by e-mail or actual mail (if you send me your address) to weekly winners.
You also win the honor of picking next week's challenge!
(If you win, PM me the details for the next challenge and I'll set it up)
If you decline this honor, I'll pick another lame idea.
Any questions? Post here!
