Wow that's slow. In some states, 75 is the speed limit 🙂 (nevada, utah, colorado, probably more...)
a lot of the freeways in utah are 65. at least the ones I drive on...

I live in NYC, so its 50mph because its a "Metropolitan Area"...

Actually the speed limit throughout NYC is 30, except on a few select highways.

Personally I think most speed limits are a pile of crap, and have little or nothing to do with what speed is actually safe. I ignore them whenever I can get away with it...

I hate to admit it, but I speed almost every time I'm on the highway. This Friday I just got a speeding ticket for doing 86 in a 70 zone.

I'm now it the process of looking for a good radar detector.

Braking when you see a cop = STUPID. The brake lights act as a bright red signal attracts the cop's attention saying "I know I'm speeding! Come and ticket me!"

Much better to just take your foot off the gas and maybe downshift. BTW, I go over 100 frequently and the one speeding ticket I got in a car in the last 10 years was measured from over 3/4 mile away. (I also got one on a bicycle, much closer 🙁 ).

I've never said squat about speeding, but I will tell you that I generally go 65 mph. I'll almost always go 62-72. But then, I drive an SUV and the mileage efficiency goes down dramatically after a certain point.

Speed limit 55, I set cruise at 59. Cop pulls me over and writes me up for 74 😕

My wife was looking right at the speed and saw I was not ever going over 60, she couldn't believe the cop is allowed to do that.

Take it to court.

Most everyone on here will say, "If you don't want to get a ticket, you don't need a radar detector, just don't speed!" or they'll go out of thier way to point out the danger someone was causing when they got a speeding ticket and how they deserved it.

I just want to know where you guys are at when I'm on the freeway (65mph speed limit) and the slow lane is going 70-75 and the fast lane is going 80+?

Go ahead and tell me you always drive at the speed limit. I'll beleive you when I start seeing a bunch of cars holding up traffic in the right lane with geeky bumper stickers on them.

I drive 15-20mph over the speed limit. So do most other drivers in this state. Somehow, none of them seem to post on ATOT, though.

Not holier than thou about speeding, but holier than thou when it comes to accepting your consequences. Just because "everyone is doing it" doesn't mean when you get singled out you should feel the need to bitch and moan. (you = anyone). I speed too, most of the time it's 80ish on a 65 around the bay area. I've gotten lucky, every time I've been pulled over last four years (knock on wood) I've just gotten a warning. Had I gotten a ticket though I would've gone to traffic school and been careful for 18 months.

Unless your driving my import.. in which you beat the pants off the mustang, and the mustang makes a comment about "Your car might be faster than mine in a straight line, but mine is faster then yours in the.. oh.. wait. yeah it's faster in the twisties as well..."

in all seriousness.. it depends on where people live. I live in atlanta, EVERYONE goes 15-20 over, and I do it without fear of getting pulled over. Going through kansas I got pulled over for going 9 over.

I don't speed too much anymore because I don't have insurance and I'd prefer to not get pulled over while that is the case.

Hah! Take that, ATOT nazi dorks! No insurance!

i'm generally going at least 90...

In town I do less than 10 over the speed limit, like 30ish in a 25 and 40 in a 35.. Most of my highway driving I do late at night. When I get on the PA turnpike, I regularly do 100 everywhere I go.

Easy, give out IQ tests at the DMV or have them give ou tests that blind deaf mutes can not pass, then throw away the speed limit signs when half of the people that should not be on the road to begin with can't be because they are not bright enough to pass the test.

most the time the highways I hit here in Colorado are 65 or 75mph as is anyway... so doin 80 is all good 😉

People drive ssssooo slow in colorado...the exception is highway 36 where everyone does 80...or on I25 at night when someone will fly by you at like 95 and then tehre's 3 or 4 cars tailing them using them as a shield. Other than that, I never see people excessively speeding...or going very much over the limit cuase there's always slow people in fast lanes....

My highway speed is always 85-95 depending on the road. On i-25 where the speed limit is 55 I go around 90 assuming there's no traffic...a 4 lane, sometimes 5 lane highway and the speedlimit is 55? On 36 I do 95 and the speed limit is 65. On this other road where it's 3 lanes and the speed limit is 45, it's kind of in the city but kind of not, I do 65-70. I think I'm always at least 15 over except in school zones and residential areas....oh yeah, I too own a radar detector. When I was 16 I got 3 tickets in 1 year...most people slow down...I went out and bought a radar detector. No tickets since and I'm 22 now.

How are the cops in Colorado? Thinking about moving to the Colorado Springs area

They're pretty cool except in Sheridan where they had to close the government down for 3 days once because of budget constraints🙂
I've never really been pulled over on a highway except once when I didn't have my detector and it was in my parents car. When he came up to the window I said something like well...you've been passing cars and I've been watching you for the last 10 minutes and I figured I'd use you as a shield...but you were a cop so then I got my ass in the right lane🙂. He laughed and said well...you don't tailgate and you use your signals and I respect that...but you're driving like it's a raceway out here with all those righthand lane passes. Anyways, he said he had me going 95 at one point and he let me off anyways partly because it was thanksgiving and partly because "most people would have tailgated someone doing 60 in teh fast lane".
