ATOT....tell me what TV tuner to get

Those are different models, the USB and loaded ones. Studio PCTV PCI is a very basic and cheap model. Maybe ASUS isn;t any worse or even better though, just another idea.

ATI software sucks monkies balls. But once you get it to work, it's a charm. But remember to use Dscaler for watching TV.

It's a pain to get working with the Asus card.

I also didn't notice much difference when I did get it to work and the remote doesn't work with Dscaler.

Anyone able to watch TV on monitor #2 in a dual monitor setup with the Asus card? I lose my video when I drag the screen over to my second monitor...hmmm

That's a limitation of the video card and not the TV tuner.

Cancel your ASUS order -- and get

Pinnacle PCTV PCI - comes in different flavors, with optional FM tuner (who needs it though). This tuner has got very good software support and frequent software updates and overall great product support, and it's amazing how all the functions and features work without any glitches in XP, a rare thing for a TV tuner I think.

I have had *bad* experiences with this card. PAL support was broken.. one day it stopped working. Just my two cents.

I'm using a ASUS V9280S...I really didn't think it was my video card. I thought maybe I was missing a setting or something.

It was the same way with a ATI 8500LE..

let me guess...you are running winxp?

Yeah - make sure you don't get a USB one, those suck real bad. I've used an ATI TV add-on to a Mach 64, an ATI TV Wonder, a Hauppage, and a Viewsonic external one. All are actually pretty similiar although I didn't like the Hauppage one very much b/c of its lack of quality. The others were pretty much the same although the viewsonic was very trouble free since the computer didn't not have to be on to use it. I believe they all use the BT848 chipset. I think the new Radeons use some sort of all-in-one for the tv abilities so it may be merged w/ its secondary chipset.

I've got the Leadtek card, and it works great. I was going to get a WinTV-PVR, but I decided that the hardware mpeg2 encoding wasn't worth the extra ~$120.

Besides, on a dual MP1200 with 1.2 GB of RAM running Linux, I don't think it would make a tangable difference. 🙂 I've still got enough power to capture at 352x240, deinterlace and encode to divx in real time without any frame loss.
