Red, I would recommend you to subscribe to the Something Awful forums. Seriously. An account costs 10 bucks, and it's great. Let me list the reasons:
1.) Has it's own subforum. No car threads or ricer crap in the General Forums
2.) You can curse. Not that big of a deal, but you don't have to write stuff like "fvcking" and "s#it". Considering that your vocabulary is probably above that, it probably won't matter to you.
3.) Paid subscription = less idiots. Period.
4.) The boards are well moderated by the site's creator, his fiancee, and other random people.
These rules effectively prohibit idiots. Since it's HIS forums, and HIS bandwidth, he can charge whatever he wants, and everyone has to like it, or leave, and he can ban whatever he doesn't like. Whereas here, when was the last time you saw Mr. Anandtech post? They have character, a sense of humor, and know how to operate a forum. This is a place that banned smilies because too many people were being dumbasses.
5.) Most people who you think are idiots and manage to buy a subscription get banned because they post really stupid s#it. Attention Whores are banned on site, nefs are banned, "Hi! I'm new!" threads are locked and sent into the gas chamber (special subforum where they put s#itty threads), if they don't like you they ban you, and if your name starts with the same letter of the word they used on the Triple Word Score in scrabble they ban you.
6.) They value punctuation and using the English language correctly. If u SpEaK lYkE ne w0rd i|\| dis sentance, u get banz0r3d, or at the very least, flamed excessively.
7.) Threads have a tag next to them, ranging from Rant, Poll, Weird, Music, Porn, Stupid, etc, corresponding to the content. By not looking at any E/N threads (Everything/Nothing, used by Lovesick pimple farmers who have angst) effectively takes out any post mainly due to angst.
8.) Has it's own subforum for idiots and goatse. You don't get to see them if you choose not to.
9.) There is no flaming there. It's Self-Moderation of the Forums.
10.) Most people there are in college or in the working world, and are usually educated.
They might not be the best forums for you (it's mainly comedy and regular threads, not many political threads), but I like them a lot.
