ATOT, school me on soaps

i've always used cheap aldi soap, nothing great but it does the job. recently i tried some old spice body wash, and while it smells nice it just seems less... clean.

what kind of soap is best for the body, mind and spirit?

This stuff is amazing.

I've been preferring this brand lately...

Smells good, and it's from in-state. I like supporting my neighbors. I also get Dr Bronners peppermint liquid soap. That's nice for summer. The eucalyptus is good for winter. Honorable mention goes to Grandpas pine tar soap, and Chandrika green. The former smells like campfire, and the latter smells like India... umm... Let's just say an idealized smell of India :^P

I never use mass market soap, I don't like the way they smell. Too industrial.

I use this:

As well as other glycerin soaps. I find that they last way longer than any of the commercial soaps (Dove, Irish Spring, etc).

BrianManahan, soap can be a wonderful thing. When applied with a bit of water, it can clean things...including your body, and as a nice side benefit, it can (on occasion) even remove some of that nasty body odor stink that's been plaguing you for decades...You really should give it a try.

Soap has polar and non-polar ends. Non-polar end sticks to the dirt on your butt. Polar end sticks to the water so it can be washed away.

Dang, that reminds me of that cologne thread we had way back when. Anyway, unless you specifically want to use a particular body wash to smell a certain way, just use 2-in-1 shampoo with a loofah:

If you have not showered with a loofah, you are missing out. Cuts your shower time in half: (also, shave in the shower with a fog-proof stick-on mirror)

There were some good tips in that cologne thread, haha. Things I learned from ATOT on how to smell good:

1. Shower daily (duh). Speedrun by using a 2-in-1 shampoo, a loofah, and shave in the shower; body wash optional (but can also leave you smelling like a teenager at a school dance, so that's something to consider).

2. Use deodorant (duh). Recommend stick, not spray (easy to overdo it with spray).

3. Good colognes do exist. I settled on Bvlgari Eau De Toilette spray for Men for everyday usage and Acqua Di Gio by Giorgio Armani for special occasions. I recommend FragranceX.com; be sure to check out RetailMeNot for coupon codes. The catch with colognes is that you go noseblind to them almost immediately (people tend to reek of the stuff because you can't tell how much you've applied after using it); the trick is to spirtz it in the air in front of you & above your head just once and then walk through the mist. Then, dab the drip from the nozzle under each of your ears & between your collarbones on your chest. This way, it's not overpowering, and you smell good when you get hugged. Also, if you're going out, try to get ready early so that you don't smell like you just bathed in cologne before you showed up - give it time to tone down a bit.

4. Clothing smell is half the battle. Use a good brand of laundry detergent (ex.Tide, just don't eat the pods, they won't make you smell good) & use fabric softener in the washing machine, and use a dryer sheet in the dryer.

I guess it works, because my wife said I smell good & married me. Thank you #ATOTeffect!

That "less clean" thing, I think, is a factor of whether or not there are moisturizers in the soap. Without them you get that "squeaky" clean feeling, but they leave your skin with very little oil after. I used to think the same thing - that the squeaky feeling was good and anything else was "less clean". Now, I use a moisturizing soap. No more deodorant soaps. Been using Olay lately and like it. Available both in a bar soap and body wash.

Check out Mother Dirt. Strip fewer oils with their cleanser, but best paired with the probiotic spray (good skin bacteria). Better to strip fewer oils than to strip them and replace them.

I've found that the absolute best soap is the one that is applied to all my nooks and crannies by the woman sharing the shower with me.
