yeah I swore off Seagate from the 300GB era where they died if you looked at it funny.
I think I stopped at 1.5 TB with Seagate. I was constantly RMAing Seagate drives. And I was loyal to them. It wasn't about having backups. It was killing my reliability and the fact that I had to use my backups frequently. At some point I got tired of it all and I believe I went to HGST at 2TB.

I would hope that commercial grade Seagate would be better, but yeah it's not my first choice unless it's a really good deal. Probably going to hold off for now though.

I have Hitachi and Toshiba drives that are over a decade old that are working fine. Not a single Seagate I have are alive. I forgot I had a couple of Seagate 750GB and they didn't last either. And they were on WORM duty for crying out loud.

Hitachi and Toshiba are really good. I have had some run for over 10 years too. They didn't die, I just retired them.

Have had good luck with WD too. Probably due to retire these soon though. :p

At some point will buy 10TB+ drives then replace them one by one and grow the array. Although before I even do that I might just build another separate array. I have the drive bays for it, may as well use them.

LoL fox commentator call Vladdy and Kirk fat in game 1 and Vladdy just ran home from first on a single. And Kirk hit a 3 run homer.
