Local elections today. Haven’t been keeping up much with who's who since Covid - so I’m only voting for our next mayor. The current mayor is not running so she can contest the governorship. She's been on cruise control for the past couple of years anyway.

We're not going to show you Jeff Johnson waving a flag. We're not going to show you Jeff Johnson kissing babies. We're not going to show you Jeff Johnson doing anything because you already know what Jeff Johnson can do. Tomorrow, vote Jeff Johnson. The name you know.

Feels like it's past midnight, but yet it's only 6pm lol. Snow on the ground, ridiculously early darkness... we pretty much are in winter right now. I'm still in "summer just started" mode... summers go by too fast.

I luvs da kitties. I guess it's been about 3 years as their "guardian." No mice. I think their hunting instinct overrides whatever consciousness they have. Hunting isn't an option, it's just what you do.

Since the mice have left, the cave crickets have moved back in. They are just so knute I can't stand it.

One tried to make friends today. It just sat there like it was invisible. I slowly offered it a big toe. Still invisible. When I finally nudged it, it "flew" off in 2 hops. Amazing little creatures.

Another sign that winter is here, people on FB complaining that their street was not plowed yet.

I live on a small side street so it usually takes several days to even a week before it gets done so I'm used to it. I actually prefer for the snow to get packed down, it's smoother than the asphalt that's under it. The stuff we have on the ground now is nasty slush/water/ice combo though so it's far from smooth.

There's this weird thing about our concept of home. For most folks, it seems to act like a gravitational field. You can escape, but it takes some effort.

Once you do, it's a choice you live with - or don't

Well that was annoying. About once a year my automation server, which also does DNS will just randomly drop the network connection, and it just did it now. Was in middle of watching a youtube video when my internet cut out.

I should probably move DNS over to a Raspberry PI, or maybe even two, with a failover setup. The automation server could easily be a Raspberry Pi too actually.

At some point I really need to setup a KVM console, since it would be interesting to see what the system is doing when this happens or to look at the dmsg log. There is an IPMI interface but it requires Java which is a pita to setup on Linux. KVM console would also make it easier to do OS upgrades or anything low level. Right now I need to haul the machine to my work bench to do anything like that. 10+ years I've had this server room and still never set that up lol.

Damn, was going to vote late this afternoon with the Mrs. Instead I was trying to sleep off a very bad migraine. This just isn't my year.
