Well that was a pain. Had to restart nfsd in order to dismount the old raid and mount the new one, and that caused a bunch of issues with the ESX server. I think I have everything good now... except a bunch of vms that show "unknown" now. But those might be old VMs I deleted. I should have deleted them in vmware first.

Well glad this part is done. I really should wait but it is tempting to start growing the next raid array now. At least that one I can do live and I won't have to dismount anything or restore NFS or anything like that.

Decided to start upgrading the other array. This one can be done live since I'm just replacing each drive (4 of em) then growing array. At least I hope that's how it works out... I never did this before.

Pulled one of the drives out. 2013, damn!

Crazy to think that drive has been running for 9-10 years straight. Makes sense though... I think that's the raid array I originally setup when I built this server. The one I upgraded actually came from an even older server and was eventually moved to this chassis once it was deployed.

Made a pizza yesterday during the Bruins game. The crust is my own. I let it cold ferment for 72 hours. When I got home, I took the dough out of the refrigerator, rubbed a little bit of olive oil on both sides and placed it into a bowl. Then I covered the bowl and let the dough come to room temperature for an hour or two. Put a little bit of flour on both sides then started spinning the dough. I laid it on some parchment and stretched it out. Cut up some veggies. I had slow cooked the bacon the previous evening. The baby back ribs meat was cooked the week before. I was using the last of it.

Slide pizza on parchment onto a 500F heated up inverted baking sheet. Cooked 11 minutes. Low broil for 90 seconds. Brushed olive oil onto crust about five minutes before taking it out of the oven. Let cool for about 5 minutes. Cut into 8 pieces.

Drive 2 of 4 now added to the raid 10 array. Rebuilding. Time for bed!

Hope I can do the next 2 tomorrow, will be happy if I can have that finished or at least finishing, while I head on my night shifts.

After all this it will be mostly done, the last step is going to be to physically pull out the drives from the old raid 5 array that I retired, that will free up 9 slots. I have an extra 10TB drive after to grow the new raid 5 array, but I might actually just hold off on that and keep it as a spare for like a year or so, in case one of the other ones fails prematurely. Need to get through the first part of the bathtub curve.

Been pricing out server stuff lately just for fun but it's way out of my price range now days. Even the 24 bay Supermicro chassis I have has basically doubled in price since I originally bought it. Next server build is going to be more DIY I think. Might even use some cheap off lease PCs like SFF desktops or something. At least for the VM servers. My goal has always been to do a HA cluster.

Went to see some kittens the other day. I think I'm going to take 2. Still giving myself time to think it over more but leaning towards going for it.

That ginger one clinged to me immediately when I picked it up. I think it will be a shoulder cat. My old cat was declawed, but I don't plan to do that again, so I will have to get used to having to clip their nails and what not. And also get used to having cuts on my hands all the time from playing with them haha.

Went out to put some oil in my car. Everything went smoothly. I was about to put my oil rag back in the back seat floorboard. Right rear tire is almost flat. Tire was really low last week. Was monitoring it. Decided to change out the tire and put on the spare. Found a nail in the tread. I made an appointment for next Saturday.
