I always kind of avoided Seagate but these do look attractive price per TB wise and they are higher end models so might be better than the desktop drives.

I have 3 open slots so if I get 3 it will give me around 33TB usable in raid 5 which is more than my entire NAS. I can keep the raid 10 arrays for high performance stuff and put stuff that matters less on this array. I have one array with a bunch of 1TB drives, I think I will retire that array and just move everything over to this new array. That will leave more slots open for more 18TB drives down the line. Ideally I'll want to make this raid 6 at some point. The rebuild time on 18TB drives is probably going to be days.

Just realized it has been a while since I checked my UPS batteries. Just did that now and added distilled water. One of the batteries is actually from 2015 and still going strong. The other 2 are from 2018. I had one of my original batteries (2012ish) die a few years back and never replaced it.

I would still avoid Seagate. I was just figuring you'd get enterprise drives instead of the Toshiba drives. But who am I to tell you how to spend your money. It can be an expensive hobby. You also need to purchase back up drives.

Yeah I don't tend to go all the way up to enterprise, maybe semi enterprise or NAS rated and had good luck with those. I have mostly WD red in my NAS now. I think WD owns most of the other ones now like Hitachi and Toshiba.

They closed the highway so imagine traffic is being redirected at whatever is the closest Y. Whoever was there when it happened probably had to turn around.
