How old is your home and how difficult would it have been just to dig a little deeper to make a full height basement? Do you have a high water table? Are you built on rock? Just curious. Here in Texas there are hardly any basements in these homes.

I'm about to take off for East Texas for a couple of days. I will be staying in a private cabin in the woods... with INTERNET! We will see how good their internet is in rural Texas. LOL. This may be the last you hear from me until Friday!

No idea why they did it that way tbh. It's a split level house so half crawlspace half basement. I'm not actually sure the reasoning of that style construction as it seems to me it would be more work than just having a full basement and all one level.

Older pic but here you can see where the basement ends and crawlspace starts:

There's a similar opening on the other side too.

(that's super old, from 2011!)

Sounds fun. I miss going camping a lot. Don't really have anywhere to go now, that's why I want to buy land. I rent a cabin once a year with a friend at the provincial park though.

It's nice having land. I have almost 8 acres now. It is a lot of work especially the mowing. My wife and I have our own zero turns. Around 2 hours with both of us mowing. I go for runs and walks on it almost daily. I have a pond at the front of the property. It holds water when it's really rainy but dry most of the time. It's frog heaven. Hope you get your piece of land someday. I worked a long time to get mine.

My festering anal gland of a neighbor just got his house repo-ed. The first indication that things are looking up was landscapers working on his yard this morning. Said weeping penis pustule views his yard as a place to park packrat ridden vehicles and burn shit so landscaping not something that would occur to him. I checked the county records and, yep, "bye bye asshole". In case you think I might sound harsh, the asshole shot two owls including a fledgling.

Been seeing 40 to even 100+ acre parcels go for sale but they get snatched up pretty quick or tend to have compromises such as access. I'm hoping something water front with road access comes up but have not seen any so far. I could compromise on water front especially if it's in the 100 acre range. I could literally just dig my own lake lol.

It's my long term goal to become financially independent then I could live off grid. Lots of room for hobbies, and more money stays in my pocket due to less bills.

Nef.

Some basement work was cut short. My masonry bit broke. :( Just nailing down the drycore for the perimeter of the basement just to make the floor more stable. Want to do that before I start drywalling since all the drilling and hammering could cause it to crack potentially.

Also one of the holes I drilled, the rebar wire just kept going and going.... I hope it's just because I hit really soft sand, and not because I drilled right through a sewer line or something. I think anything like sewer lines is going to be much deeper than the bit can reach though... at least I hope.

I have like 3 hours of meeting each day now....
This is my new fear. For the first weeks of teleworking ignorance of video conferencing and fear of being on camera kept meetings to a minimum of quick conf calls. This week, the flood gates opened and people are setting up meetings left and right. On Tuesday, there was a push to have everybody turn on their cameras (I didn't). The only purpose for the cameras is to insure folks aren't working on other things, which I am, while the meeting is underway.

So glad we don't have much meetings. We have 2 short "stand up" meetings per week, and that's it. When I was in IT it was brutal, so many freaking meetings just wasting your time, then they wonder why you're behind on projects, so they have another meeting to discuss that!

Well that sucks the DP to HDMI adapter I got does not work at all. Won't even detect the monitor. :/ Back to DVI to HDMI for the secondary I guess but that can't do 4k. Need to find a GPU that has dual HDMI but there's not much selection for that.

Well this sucks. Pretty much fucks me right over. Wonder if it's the mini DP to normal DP that it does not like. Maybe I should have gotten Mini DP to HDMI. I wanted to go with the separate adapter so it's a bit more versatile if I switch things up later.

Well looks like I wasted like a grand between the 2nd 4k, and all the adapters etc. This system for whatever stupid reason does not seem to support having 2 4k monitors. The display ports don't work at all, even in HD, can only use DVI. Also can't use the built in HDMI in addition to the GPU. It detects but there's nothing on the screen. It seems most GPUs only have 1 HDMI so I'm screwed even if I get a new one. I guess I could go DP for the secondary but that means buying and running new cables. This setup is really getting expensive.
