Some progress from yesterday before I got sick.

I half assed sealed that since I was getting sick, can smell the garage in the living room now. :p

I hope my sickness was not actually caused by this work, I don't think so though, I woke up with that sore throat. Perhaps I did not help my case by working anyway though. I should really be wearing a mask doing that but it's just so sweaty having that on and the safety glasses. I figure it's not like I'm doing this sort of work daily. If I was then yeah probably want to minimize exposure.

That bottom part is solid concrete so don't think I'll be able to do much with it, but when I build my wall it will only stick out a bit, and I'll just build around it.

Tempting to build a hatch door so I can get to the garage from the living room. The hatch door would end up behind the couch, would be kind of funny to move the couch and be able to enter the garage that way.

Just got the estimate for the concrete job. Around $2,500 total. That also includes hauling away all the bricks and stuff I ripped out.

A bit more than I was originally hoping to spend, but after he explained all what he's doing, including adding more rebar, and doing a 3" pour, I think it's going to be worth it.

2 hours after delivering my package, FedEx.com still hasn't registered the package as "Delivered."
Still tells me it's "out for delivery" now.
( I get FedEx maybe once a month so I'm not familiar with their tracking promptness. My experience may or may not be typical. )

USPS reports deliveries in fewer than 10 minutes, though on occasion a delivery goes unregistered for an hour or so.

How can you rush home and rescue the package on the porch if they don't update you promptly?

I hate missing out on Fedex packages here. Not sure how common that is but where I live you have to call in advance when you'll go pick it up and schedule a pickup, you can't just go any time. Huge royal pain. It's in the back of a building and you have to knock at a non descript blank metal door and they hand your package. It feels like a drug deal lol.

Going on 3 hours since delivery and FedEx.com thinks the package is still "out for delivery."
The package is already in my house, thanks to someone else's help. I didn't even leave work.

heheheh
How annoying to arrange a time.

I don't usually miss out on a shipment these days unless a signature is required for delivery.
I used to miss US Postal Service packages routinely, because the mailman was too lazy to buzz my apartment. BUt that was back in my apartment days, when I worked thirds ... so I was most always at home when the mail arrived, and a buzz away. Yet thanks to his sheer laziness, I had to wait until the following day and drive to the local post office with my delivery slip, to get my stuff.

Front porches are your friend. Unless, it's signature required, it's just dropped off.

Thankfully, with signature required my 'hood is late on the route so leave work early and cross fingers

It's random, sometimes signature required, sometimes not. Depends on the company it's coming from I guess.

I hate windows 10. It's just so convoluted. Trying to figure out why this laptop is so bloody slow. It runs like a Vista machine. It does not even appear to have any kind of spyware or anything of that nature, it's new. It's just so freaking slow. I think I'm just going to format and put windows 7 and see if it improves things.

Gonna have to go for a drive and check this property out when I'm feeling better.

OVER 26 ACRES ON HENWOOD LAKE. MIXED FOREST WITH SPRUCE AND PINE. YEAR ROUND HIGHWAY ACCESS WITH DRIVEWAY INTO SMALL SHED. LOTS OF WILD LIFE SEEN ON THE PROPERTY INCLUDING BEAR, MOOSE, DEER, WOLF, LYNX, ETC. LOTS OF CROWN LAND IN THE AREA, THIS COULD BE A GOOD BASE FOR THOSE HUNTING & FISHING TRIPS. HYDRO & PHONE AT THE ROAD. UNORGANIZED TOWNSHIP WITH LOW PROPERTY TAXES AND NO ZONING OR BUILDING PERMITS REQUIRED. BUILD WHAT YOU WANT. (id:19037485)

It's also river front. Quite a lot of frontage actually. 50k so a bit more than I want to pay for a property but this is first one that ticks most of my wish list. A bit further south than I want though, like 2 hours from here... but still not bad. Phone access is actually a bonus. I don't care so much about any utilities being available but this will make things easier. Imagine I could get DSL too.
