Migrated my password manager to new software. Wrote it myself as I could not really find anything that worked the way I want, as I wanted it to be web based so I can host it on my own server and access from any computer on the network without having to install anything. VMs etc.

I still kept the old one around as a backup until I feel it's proven. The encryption in the old one just used a hard coded key that was built into it, kinda crude. New one is a bit more sophisticated in how it encrypts while keeping the key secure. It's also more prone to issues that could result in failing to decrypt.. so still need to futher test it but so far so good. I mean, worse case scenario most sites have a lost password feature if something does fail badly.

My favourite feature is being able to search for a password to see what uses a given password. I can put in a password that's been hacked then it brings up everything that uses that password, so I can change it. Though moving forward I'll be heading towards using different randomly generated passwords for each site. Too many freaking sites get hacked now day. Nobody in the corporate world cares about security.

As a side note it's horrible how some sites have the most ridiculous password restrictions. Some will actually prefer a weak password over a complex one.

Well have not run into that in a long time. A system where the CPU is the bottleneck, not the spindle hard drive. I was hearing the drive roaring like crazy thinking it was making the system slow so I put a spare SSD I had on hand but it did nothing. Trying to see if I can get Linux going on a EEE PC that my sister wants to sell, but it's practically unusable. It feels like Windows Vista!

As a side note I did a totally impromptu cleanup. I had a wall of cardboard boxes in the basement from random internet purchases over the years and I just kept piling the boxes there. I always keep them for a bit in case I have to return something or ship something or what not. Well I figured enough is enough time to clean that up. Filled up the recycle bin and still have more stashed in the garage.

Also found my work fob and ID card! It was in the garage. I thought I had checked there but apparently not.

Now back to this EEE PC. I really want this thing to work, I think they're neat little machines, just slow I guess. I might keep it for myself if I can get it to work half decently. Going to try XFCE version of Mint see if that's better.
