I need to get a new paper shredder myself. Mine still works but the plastic that holds the shreding gears is broken so it's just kind of held in place by gravity. If I pick up the top it all falls apart. It's kinda too bad since the actual shredding part is fine it's the plastic that holds it together that broke.

Lol with all this video editing I forgot that I actually was rebuilding a raid. It's already almost done. 90%! I wonder why it's so fast, it normally takes a good part of a day to do. I wonder if that drive has been failing for a long time and was slowing down the whole array. Maybe I actually solved my file server's slowness issue... But the slowdowns happened even on other arrays, so can't see why it would be that.

What on God's earth were you shredding for the plastic to break?

Just wear and tear. The screws that hold it all together basically stripped right out of the housing. It is quite possible that I put too much paper at one point and it caused excessive force too. 😛

It's crazy how fast purchase receipts accumulate though. omg. Would make a fun project to build a small incinerator. Could burn all that stuff instead of shredding it. Would be faster.

It's because they are made cheaply. My old one is still working, but it's over 15 years old and only does straight cut and is noisy as hell. Does not cut as good as it once did. So, time for new one. I can imagine the newer ones breaking down earlier due to cheap plastic parts. The new shredder is a medium duty. Cannot afford the industrial models.
