I just saw a very emotional interview with Chris Wallace and a parent who lost his daughter to a school shooter. As soon as that's uploaded to YouTube, I'm throwing it on P&N. I'm with this guy. We both want to see security at schools like airports, federal buildings, court houses, etc. Curtailing the 2nd is NOT the way to do this. Albeit some things can change. Like bump stocks and the age limit. But there's a lot to be said about a mental health database. But I gotta say. As someone who has been diagnosed with schizophrenia as well has thousands of others, we are not in large part a threat to schools, etc. So I feel this mental health crap is a fine line. Especially given the recent shooter never seen a therapist that I know of. So regardless of a database and all this, he STILL would slip through the cracks.

Sounds like the database needs to be updated to include more things. We need to do more than just say no to changes. Funding should increase to take care/assist these individuals. Can't stop everything, agreed. But I'm willing to make tighter restrictions on access to semi automatic weapons for some people that would normally be able to buy a single shot rifle, shotgun, or revolver. I'm willing to wait at least two weeks regardless to purchase a firearm. I think that suicidal/homicidal thoughts might change in two weeks for a lot of people. We need to discuss this and not just say a bunch of absolutes. This coming from a veteran and owner of an AR-15 type rifle.

The same % of mentally ill people are the same percentage in America as it is in Europe. The difference? Europe has laws banning most semi automatic weapons. I'm not saying we should, but we damn well better start discussing tighter restrictions. That's where I'm at. We can't just have these. We can't lock up everyone or someone who's just different.

Basically, the NRA is not the defender of the 2nd Amendment. No, they're the lobbyist for the gun industry. Can't hurt sales. My ancestors dropped their membership in the NRA. We were all hunters, fishermen, good marksmen and gave service to our country, the one we loved. It was no longer about hunting and safety training.
