Well, I got the ugly fans in from Amazon. I had one NF-P12 fan that I had been using for the exhaust fan. I moved it with two new ones to the front. Had some issue getting the NF-P12 PWM fans into the front mounting bracket. The fans were so tight trying to align the holes. I liked the addition of the PWM feature. WIll probably get another one with PWM. All this will work great with the future motherboard. I got a NF-S12B redux-1200 PWM fan for the back. This setup was recommended, with NF-F12 for the CPU HSFs. If only they were good looking. I may never look at them again, but it's a sin that they don't look decent out of the box.Good thing they are such good design and quality. Looks do rank last, as I did get them, regardless.
I tested the fans out. They all fired up, appropriately. Unfortunately, the new monitor has made DVI a legacy port. My motherboard only has DVI and VGA. The monitor has HDMI 2.0 x 2, DP 1.2 x 2, mini DP 1.2 x 1. It's also got 4 USB 3.0 downstream ports (2 x BC1.2 charging capabilities at 2A (max)), 2 USB 3.0 upstream ports. As it is, I was planning on putting my MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G into it anyways. I was waiting until I got the longer SATA cables before putting it in the file server, as it takes away some SATA ports on the motherboard. It's a crap mobo, so it's not unexpected that it's layout is worse than I originally thought. Will install the card into the file server tomorrow evening, giving me video output once again.
I wish I was putting together the new server today. Man, this may be some time. Bummer. I have to admit, I'm getting used to this curved monitor. Like Sid said, curved = fail. I had a hard time with it myself. I disliked it at first. The problem, I was using it like my previous one. To get the full greatness, you must use multiple windows on it. Freakin' fantastic. It will be nice when I got everything finished and can just play with it. I'm planning a road trip this weekend. Will wait until I get back to kick back.
Here's the NF-S12
Here's the NF-P12 fans installed. My old non-PWM one in the middle.
